i got about a dozen, used-very used USGI mags, all brands that wont drop free and are kinda tough to insert in the mag well of BOTH of my ARs--one stock BUSHMASTER and the other a MEGA build

at first i though it was just the MEGA--but these mags are tight in my bushy too....

things i have tried:
its not the trigger guard--free and clear, no drag
i tried the vice idea and it worked on a few of em

but i still got 11 where some are tight around the mag well on the sides; the others are tight back to front...

should i apply more force on the sides/front-back of the mags w/ the vice? or should i hammer the front-back and see if it will work?

any other ideas?
--pls dont tell me to file down my mag well--or should i?

thanks all

These mags are gone, just send them to me for proper disposal!

I had some Center Ind mags that would not drop free. I just took them to the range for a shoot and by the end of the day they dropped free with no problem. I wonder if the "coating" was a tad thick and the shooting smoothed it out.

take them to the range, it won't hurt.
out side of this, I don't know what else to try

ok CB1, will do

btw: 6 of the 11 are a real PITA to load into the mag well--EXTREAMLY tight

they are very well used

most of the problems seem to be that the front/back of the mag is too large--should i carefully dremel some of it off?

or should i just dremel my mag well around the sides and sear down the anodizing....

I found a Bushmaster teflon at a LE range that was too tight. I fixed it with a vise. If they are so out of spec that they don't fit after a vise then just shoot them or something don't dremel your magwel.

I would NEVER dremel my reciever (magwell) to accommodate some "real old" mags- or any mag for that matter

spend a few bucks, and freshen up your stock.

thanks all

last time i take advice from an AK man (he suggested i dremel my mag well, just like he dremeled his AK well to fit his polymer AK mags better)

Good squeeze with a vise.

Actually, he should have taken some sand paper to the AK polymer mags. I have some Bulgarian Waffle mags but they fit fine as is.

Sand/dremel the mags or toss em. You can buy a lot of new mags for what a receiver will cost.

I had 4 with varying degrees of tightness in my magwell. I used the vise trick. All but one now go in and out freely. The last one upon inspection was welded without the correct amount of overlap evidenced by the seam not being parallel with the body. I raided it for parts.

I've had mags that were tight but drop free from my brother's Bushy. I'd dump em and replace with shiny new D&H teflon mags. Others have squished them in a vice so they would drop free. I'd make them range only at that point though.
