does a flash suppresor increase the noise level to the shooter like a brake does? is there an fs that is quieter than another?

I am not sure the nosie level is increased, as much as in which direction it is sent. So an attachment that sends the noise downrange and does not reflect it back would appear quieter.

None of the flash suppressors I have noticed really increase the noise. I dont know how or why but some appear to decrease the noise when compared to a crowned barrel or some brakes.

No increase in sound, and a decrease in flash.
