Clamp the upper in a padded vice, apply some heat and then use a wrench with a long handle so you can get some leverage and it should come off fairly easily.

I did mine this way, on a H-bar, removed handguards and clamped the barrel in a wooden block vise, then just wrenched it off, it was very tight.

Hm, i just use an armorer's wrench, it was easy to take it off.
