Changes in temperature can cause condensation to form, so you need to oil it pretty good I would think. You might get a good air tight case and put some desicant in there, but I don't know if that would help with moisture.

What kind of apartments you living in . At my friends old apartment we would carry guns in and out of the place when we were going shooting. Maybe the (Laws) are differnt up there. My guns are my childern where I go they go. Well good luck with that. Keep it oiled maybe get a storage bag for it they make bags that are air tight for that kind of storage.

My advice
1) Move out screw the antigun socialists!!! freedom and liberty demand the right to keep and bear arms, (seems I read that somewhere or another) 2) If for whatever reason you can't then hide it inside as suggested earlier 3) Condensation occurs when you pass from freezing to above freezing. Condensation will occur and rust will result. If you MUST keep your baby in the trunk then grease it, not oil it. Take it totally apart and grease every part with good gun grease. Then get one of those rust inhibitor bags (Kleen bore makes a good one) and then pack a bag of dessicant in it rubber band it closed and then put it in a hard gun case. Make sure you totally remove all grease before shooting |

I've read that Bull Frog makes some pretty good rust inhibitor products. They make a sleeve you can slide your gun into and it completely stops rust from forming for a period of time.

No offence but keeping your gun in your car is jus asking for trouble. So, many things can go wronge; car gets stolen, car gets broken into and BAM!! instant jackpot for theives. I would come up with a better solution if it were me.

Make sure you totally remove all grease before shooting well it's not illegal to keep a gun here, it's just in the lease that they are not allowed. but the lease also forbids pets, musical instruments and stereos, and it's not as if those are in short supply around here. the landlord's policy is basically if we don't see it, hear it, or smell it, we don't care. The problem isn't keeping my guns in my room, I do that currently. Besides the lease says guns aren't allowed anywhere on the premises, which would include my trunk regardless. It's when my current room mates move out and new ones move in. I probably won't want to break it to them that I have a stash of high-powered weaponry under my bed, they might tell the landlord and get me kicked out or something. [%|] |

fuck that, no one will ever tell me i cant have a gun in my home. i would hang my goddam gun on the wall! i have no tolerance for gun hating liberals. actually, just move out and find a new place that doesn't have stupid people running it. don't give those idiots your money.

Move back home with your parents so you can have whatever you want just the way you like it.
What if you're car gets stolen with your guns? Do you honestly feel safe leaving your guns in your parked car at all times? I think this is an unviable solution. |

the cheapest solution if you do not wish to spend hundreds of dollars on a case you might not need are gun socks. (whoa run-on sentence)
You can get ones made by remington for five bucks at your local wal-mart. The beauty of gun socks, they are silicon-treated and they are intended for long-term storage. Wonderful inexpensive solution. I used to live in sooouuttthhhhh florida with lots of humidity, where one of my .22 rusted up within two weeks. Gun sock saved anything that wasn't as precious as an AR to keep in a nice case. Anywho, hope that helps. |

Gun in the car, I moved my M16 into the house after a night below freezing in the car.
Total frost up, total sweating, total fogging of optics. Probably precludes proper quick use in tactical situation trying a frozen gun. |

It's a matter of prioritys.
Rifle outside in the cold where it does you no good,and room mates that are suspect. ("Without my rifle I am useless,without me my rifle is useless") Screen your potential room mates better. If not possible,get the hell out, enlist, and enjoy the company of a better class of people. It's harsh, yeah I know. Reach down and grab ahold. Never comprimise your fundamental principles. Never.
