I'm wondering what most of you guys are going with.  The chome moly barrels are about 35$ cheaper.  Also this will be just a toy pretty much so I'm not concerned with fragmentation so do I really need the 1/7?

i would get the chrome lined to make cleaning/maintenance easier and since its just a toy the cl would help with the high round count.

as for bbl twist i would probably just go with the 1x9 but where are you finding 1x7?

Chrome lined for sure. Makes cleaning so much easier, and the barrel does last longer.

I would go with the 1x7 twist, gives you the option of shooting heavier bullets as well as shooting the lighter stuff just fine.

Mine is  7.5" stainless 1x9

The only way you will get consistent and reliable expansion from a shorty
is if you use True Varmint bullets - soft points or ballistic nylon tips.

where did you get your stainless barrel?  I have no use for expansion as this is just a range toy, so I'm leaning more towards the 1/9.

I bought the complete upper ( Flattop with railed gas block and float tube)
off a dealer at a show about a year ago , cost me $325
its totally generic but good quality and assembled well.

I even tried it out on a Full Auto Lower at a shoot this past summer , worked great
