I'm new to ARs, but I'm brave and like to know how things work so I decided to partially build my first... RRA stripped lower with a complete RRA standard flattop upper. Lower internals are a mix of Colt, BM, and RRA parts.

The only problems I've encountered are a) forgot to order the screw to fasten the buttstock to the rifle [d'oh!] and b) the bolt catch is not allowing the rifle to load ammo from the magazine.

I believe the bolt catch is a Colt part. The arm which is raised by the mag follower is too long, so it presses down on the cartridges preventing them from feeding. Should I go ahead and start grinding on the bold catch and make it the proper length to only hit the follower and not the ammo, or should I order a new bolt catch?

Thanks for your input!

ps. The bolt catch overshoots the follower and overlaps the ammo by 1/4" or more!

update:

got the new bolt catch from BM tonight. It dropped in perfectly w/ no extra fitting required.

As soon as I get my carry handle, I'll be ready to try it out for real!!

Thanks,
