I seem to recall reading the thread about the blackwater team in iraq that was doing the 'turkey shoot' and the ranges involved were from 100-750 yds or so. Im curious what kind of ammo they were using and what the trajectory and ballistics are like at 600-700 yds. Even with 77gr smk, the energy levels must be tiny out that far.

Both types of ammo were available. If you could get your hands on it, there was the 5.56 long range made for the SPR. Ballistics are as they would be with any 5.56 at those ranges. Wind would play hell and you had to have your elevation down cold. Terminal ballistics are not the best but the 5.56 will still produce causualties at that range without a problem.

But you have to realize that those "SPRs" were used back in the early CPA days. Now BW DDMs are issued full Mk 11 Mod 0 SR-25 kits including cans and M-24s.

That is a welcome note.

Lets hope that the DMs/Snipers we see toting the M14, are doing so as a matter of choice, and not from a 'funding' or availability problem

Hell, the sooner the newest iteration (XM110) shows up in Fallujha and Tikrit - the better
