Whole discussion on the topic over here in the Rimfire and Pistol Calibers forum.

After my reading and looking (I had a similar plan to yours), I ended up deciding that getting a dedicated .22 upper would be much better for my purposes.

Generally speaking, the slower the better.  Most dedicated uppers are 1x16.  I have shot a chopped 1x7 DRMO M16 barrel stub, and it did well to 25 yards, but 1x16 is more accurate.

The 1/9 is better for shooting the .22 conversion kits. I am assuming you want your ammo easily accessible at Walmarts and Sports Authority type stores. I prefer the Federal bulk ammo from Walmarts. Shoots fine in my Stag.

This picture is from the above topic you posted:

If one looks at the targets shot with all rifles using the same ammo...... shooting .22lr for practice, plinking, or hunting, the 1/9 will definitely do.  Would a rabbit or squirrel notice the difference if hit with either of those twist rifles?

Now, Ask your self. Where is the 1/7 twist rifle's target?
