OK guys I know everyone is tired of hearing the same old ammo questions over and over again. I ask that you please answer mine (pretty please with sugar on top please) I have a bushmaster 20 inch barrel AR A-2. Out of these ammo choices which would you buy, use, and stock pile for SHTF situations. XM193, Q3131A, or Q3131. I am assumeing that Federal XM193 is the best out of all of these but what about Q3131A verses Q3131, which of these two is the better round and why. And finally which is better (once we have a winner from the Q3131 and Q3131A) XM193 or the winner of the Q3131 stuff. Or are they all equal performers. Other than the preference of everyone wanting XM193 is the Q3131 stuff just as good as the XM193 in all aspects. Thanks for beating this dead horse.

All are equal in my book.  Edge going to Q3131A, because it is first rate with an excellent reputation.

Just buy whatever is cheapest.

I'd say all are about equal too.  Maybe an edge to the Federal XM193 in my mind, but that is only because Federal ammo has done so well for me in my experience.  Get what is available and affordable to you.

If you wait just a minute though, someone will come along and tell you that you should only be buying Black Hills 77 gr. OTM loadings...lol.

Well my small funds will only allow me to buy 1 of these 3 choices only. What I am really trying to find out is the difference between the XM193 and the Q3131A not the plain old Q3131. I rember reading a post awhile back that the Q3131 was not as good (but almost just as good ) as the Q3131A stuff. One plus I rember is than unlike the XM193 the Q3131A is brand new ammo that are not military rejects like the XM193 are military QC rejects (not that this ammo isnt any good) I just want to know before I spend my money on this stuff because it will never be shot ( except to make sure its works) it will be loaded on mags and put in sealed 50 cal ammo cans. thanks guys

You might have a tough time finding the XM193 anyway.

Using the seat of the pants test the XM 193 feels a little hotter.  Either that or the Q3131A has more of a flash retardant which makes it seem a little more civilized when shot from a 14 /12" barrel.  Out of your 20" barrel you won't see a difference.  I picked up 5k of Q3131A from KY imports and I am quite happy with it.  The only reason I lean toward the XM193 is I have fired thousands of rounds out of four AR's and all have functioned perfectly.  May I add one of the ARs is very fussy but shoots XM193 flawlessly.  I don't think you can go wrong with either.  Good luck.

My experience has been, flash supressant levels vary from lot to lot in Q3131A and XM193.  Some lots have a lot, some have none at all.  This is perceived.  The only way to judge "hotness" is truly with a chrony.

Always good to find what shoot best in your rifle, and go with it.  However, since lots can vary, even that is difficult.

Except for Q3131 (no A) with a 1999 headstamp any of those is good.  Since its SHTF ammo I'd buy M855 while supplies last then get some XM193/Q3131A/Q3131 later.

Shok

I thought that M855 was better outside of 100 yards and the m193 stuff was better than M855 inside of 100 yards. If this is the case then I'd rather not have it since this is SHTF ammo only. Litterally the only time I would shoot it is if the SHTF. I would only shoot a sample of it to make sure it was GTG after that then if all goes well then my grandkids can shoot it. If the world is still here then. So I would like to think that sice I'm not all that great of a shot (I'm ok but not an expert). Then If I was 100+ yards away I would like to think that I would rather get the hell out of dodge. But this is good info guys keep it coming.

What about shooting Wolf ammo?
And how is its velocity under water?
