What is the optimal grain size for fmj ammo for a .223 ar-15 with a 16' 1/9 twist barrel?

62 Grain Federal ammo works great for the 1/9 twist. Very accurate. Check out Natchez at www.natchezss.com

FWIW, Combat Jack is correct, your 1/9 twist 16" barrel will handle up to the 69 grn. SMKs.

In the Federal Gold Medal or Black Hills versions the 69s will probably get you your best accuracy, (ie.. tightest groups).

If a SHTF round is what you looking for then the Black Hills 68grn. MBTHP Hornady round would probably be a good choice if they group well in your rifle.

For plinking, see suggestions by the others above.

ps - except for the post by Colt_SBR whose obviously been snorting something or posting in the wrong thread........

55-69 with 62 being the best choice, in my opinion. But what do I know.
