Aimpoint says 3 Volt Lithium battery type 2L76 or DL1/3N.

This is the same as Radio Shack #23-265 and the older CR 1/3N.  Some of the new battery models will say "replaces CR 1/3N."

On weapons lights, yes and no. They are the same size, but camera batteries don't always have the heat protection features of the flashlight 123s, so they can overheat and explode in your flashlight.

Thanks Robert. Gottcha on the aimpoint. So are there any brand 123 batteries someone could buy at the corner store and use on the surfire. Or is it pretty much, use 123 surefire batteries on a surefire weapon light.

I don't know what all the different specs are. The camera batteries would probably work fine for limited use. It's when you need constant light that the intense drain can overheat them.

It's kind of like a starter battery vs a deep cycle boat battery. One is made for a fast and massive current drain (with extra plates) while the other is designed for slow discharge (small plates for less current loss). The camera batteries are designed for slow discharge.

The other issue is cost. I've seen those camera batteries sell for $6-7 each. Surefire batteries were 12 for $15 last time I got them.

I get those batteries for real cheap, by the half-dozen at this site called www.batteriesandbutter.com for $3.50 a piece.

Duracell DL1/3N 3V Lithium Battery

Just got a bunch 3 weeks ago, real fast shipment and real cheap. You save like 5-6 bucks on each than buying them retail, and no you don't have to purchase them in bulk. I usually get a bunch of them because if you do a lot of shooting and stuff they tend to wear out quick, plus the red dot scopes are easy to forget you have them turned on when you put them away.
