Check the local pawn and gun shops. Call the police ad let them know.
Did you trade someone local for it and give them your address? Call gun shops and let them know. |

You and me both (I'm LE as well). As yes, it was documented, reported stolen, and I have an incident number to go along with it. 90 rounds of ammo (in 3 mags) was in the case as well. Serial # was BD. No prints taken, as they simply smashed the vehicle window open and grabbed the case. |

I just picked up a new insurance carrier, so it's not in my best interest to make a claim. I'm getting the window replaced tomorrow for $250, so that's not too bad. As for the rifle...  Home owner's might cover it, but I'm not getting too excited. It's not just the value, it's just the flagrant disrespect. Did I mention my vehicle is a 2006 with 600 miles on it? Nice, huh? |

It does sound like someone WATCHED you load the rifle into the vehicle and leave w/ your dog. Nobody just happened to walk/drive past, see the rifle inside, then commit to a smash'n'grab.
Be sure to watch the closest pawn shops like a hawk. Whoever did this is as dumb as dirt, and won't go too far to unload it. Put flyers up locally and offer some reward cash. ETA: Yesterday was 19Aug06 -- Today => 8/20. Was it taken Saturday? What locale of WA? |

If it even looks like an unattended gun case, people will smash and grab.
A friend of mine had WWII miniatures he hand-painted in a 'gun-like' case sitting in his car. Walked away for 10 minutes, came back and you can guess what he found missing. What sucks is that his stuff is probably in a dumpster now once the idiot opened it up and realized what it was. In any case, good luck man. I hope they catch the moron. We'll all be looking. |

Sorry, I live in WA, and on my side of the state, at least, the smash'n'grab style of robbery is only now starting to become common. If this was at the man's home, odds are there just isn't enough 'traffic' past his car for this to have happened in the amount of time he was gone with the dog. I leave valuables in my car all the time, sometimes firearms -- This style of theft is one I fear most. I don't even have a new vehicle. I'd like to get my hands on the mothe |

Are you an NRA member? If so you have coverage for your guns if they're stolen (up to $1,000). Give them a call and they'll send you some paperwork to fill out. I know what you are going through! I had a custom Colt 1911 stolen out of my uncle’s vehicle in WA years ago (yes I was a LEO at the time) and I still haven’t heard anything on it.
 Do two things. 1). Make up a data sheet on the weapon with any pictures of a similar looking one. 2). Make contact with ALL the little nickel add centers, pawn shops, gun shops, LE Agencies in WA, OR, ID, and get them a copy with contact info A.S.A.P. Offer a reward for the return of the weapon can hurt (Even if you do a “No Questions Asked”!) and may help get it off the streets before someone get hurt or kill. It takes some time to put it together, but it needs to be done. Hope this helps and ya get it back soon! ArticWolf |

I can empathize.....I was the victim of the "ultimate" smash and grab about 11 months. Had a 400 pound safe drug out of my house while I was at work with 2 Ar's, 3 Weatherby Deluxe's, a few shotguns and 22's, Kimber 1911, 2 S&W pistols, a ruger sinlge six, and a partridge in a pair tree!!!!!here
Long story short....The Kimber was recovered about 3 weeks later by police in a neighboring city and the debauchery at my local police department associated with it's recovery led a few members of the State police and ATF to believe the burglary was orchistrated by someone in my local gun records department....and I concur. However, nobody seems to have the desire and/or manpower to investigate. head.gif I hope you have better luck than I and you get your rifle back, good luck! |

Let all of us learn from his mistake, never ever leave anything you do not want stolen in a vehicle. Theives will break into your car even for a single CD. I am an LEO and i see this all the time. If you absolutely have to leave a firearm in an unattended vehicle put it in the trunk or take the time to leave it somewhere safe.

Also watch Ebay for the parts that can sell on there. I had a motorcycle stolen and that's where part of it ended up. If YOU catch the guy give him a good solid punch in the kidneys for me. Good luck.

Man, that sucks. Sorry for your loss. I hope they catch the asshat who did it and hope you get your gun back. I had my storage unit broken into and a bunch of stuff stolen years back - it sucked.
