I'm having an issue zeroing my Nikon 3x9 Buckmaster. I've had this scope for about five or six years now and the windage and  elevation adjustments have always been somewhat finicky but useable. Once zeroed it would always hold perfectly and never gave me an issue. It's lived it's life on a Remington 700 ADL in 308 and has never been abused.

Since I don't shoot my 700 much (been about a year since it was last used) I decided to move it to my latest AR build. Here's where the issue has started. I can not get this damn thing to zero! Sometimes a few clicks of elevation adjustment will not move it at all and the next I'm off paper at 50 yards, the windage works fine though.

Currently I'm about 3" high at 50 yards and it will hold that zero perfectly. It took over and hour and a half to get it that close before I said screw it. Can this thing be repaired? Is it even worth it seeing as it was only a $200 scope new?

*UPDATE* Well, I feel like a complete idiot. The issue wasn't with the scope at all, it was the Magpul Type 2 M-Lok rail covers. One of the tabs was contacting the gas block which caused all of my zeroing issues. I removed that section of cover and got the rifle sighted in with three shots.

I had a Nikon P223 3x9 that had an o-ring some loose. Although it was a cheap scope, it came with a lifetime warranty so I was able to send it in for repair (only had to pay the shipping one way). Their customer service was awesome and I got the scope back in about a week.

Nikon will fix it, but double check your mount.

I've checked the mount (ADM Recon) and it's solid as a rock. I can shoot some nice groupings with it as is, I just can't put them where I want

The mount may be solid as a rock, but did you over tighten the rings?  If you crush the scope, you could be placing pressure on the internals, which makes the adjusters bind and act funny.  If you are lucky, simply loosening and properly tightening the rings frees them back up.  But if you went too far, you could have permanently damaged the scope.

I followed the instructions from ADM and tightened the rings to 20 inch-pounds.

"The proper torque setting for our Scope Mount ring screws is 20-25 In/Lbs. Also, torque and tighten the bottom ring screws first, then torque and tighten the top screws. There should be a slight gap between the top of the ring halves."

What Recon model?  If you have the Recon-20, that has a 20 MOA slope for long range and some scopes might have difficulty zeroing at shorter distances.  That mount might bottom out your elevation and still cause groups to be high.

Is the scope elevation turret maxed out as low as it will go?  If so, I can think of only three possibilities:

1.  ADM mis-boxed the mount and sent you the 20 MOA version.  Test with another scope to see if you still have the problem.

2.  The scope main tube has gotten bent somewhere along the line.

3.  The scope is now defective internally, such as stripped threads on tbe elevation turret.

It is also possible that your rifle has a defective rail, but that is less likely.

He is getting erratic shots, not consistently high or low, so the mount would have nothing to do with it, unless loose.

My money is he crushed it some where along the way, or it was defective when he bought it.  He stated it has always had erratic adjustments, but he got it to finally point where he wanted and it held, so he left it at that.  He should have gotten repaired when he first got it.

Well it looks like I'm SOL on the lifetime warranty since you HAVE to send them a copy of the receipt, which I don't have anymore

Banks keep credit card statements for a few years. If you can can locate the transaction, then this might help with your dealer locate and reprint you a receipt. If you paid by cash then its a lost cause.

They're currently on clearance from Walmart, $64-$30 depending on what store you're at.
Buy another one and send the old in for repairs?

I'd say buy a new one and use receipt to send old one in, but it's a buckmaster, and they really aren't in the same league as the Pro Staff line.  However, if you want a really nice scope on the cheap, grab the Bushnell Trophy XLT 3-9x40, I got a couple in the bone collector model for 70 bucks from PSA, and at the moment you can get a 30.00 rebate on them as well.

This scope was just a place holder until I could get a 1x6, which I will be doing soon.
