In the movie HEAT - Kilmer and DeNiro use Colt Commando's in the bank heist.

What is the model number?

11.5 inch bbl, A1 field sight upper with brass deflector and round forward assist.
4 position fiberlite stock, no bayonet lug.
full auto, no 3-rd burst

I have looked at the HEAT movie thread, but no info on the Colt Commando.

I think the 733 is correct, but didn't it have a bayonet lug?

The ones in the movie do not.

Anyone else know if the 733 had a FSB with or without bayonet lug or did Colt use both?

Am I even close on the model number?

My Factory Colt Commando 11.5" upper doesn't have a lug.

Thank you so much for the reply Colt_SBR.

I was looking at the chart at biggerhammer.net and was confused by the conflicting data.
The chart on the top of the web site says bayonet lug = yes, shows a picture of a flat-top with removable carrying handle and says HBAR for barrel profile and shows no bayonoet lug.

The lower chart says M16A1 rear sight, no mention of barrel profile.

It looks like yours has the fixed carry handle - I assume A1 field sights and round Forward Assist? sorry I didn't see the bottom picture - slow dial-up.

And I assume the carbines in the movie HEAT are in fact model 733's?

thanks again!

cptrfwright your welcome.

Sorry about the big photos but I wanted you to see the front site base well.

I got the upper from my brother and he says, he has the Colt paperwork certifying the authenticity of the upper as a true Commando.

It has either 4 or M4 on the front of the carry handle and M4 ramps. It's buried in the back of my safe and it's a real pain to get to.

Forest - thanks.

I have seen his excellent work and I will check it out again.
I don't post very often here, but I have spent hours reading and learning - I am a big shorty fan.

-AND-

I just came across another variation of the M16A2 "Commando" model 733 in my copy of "The Black Rifle" vol 1.
Page 354 shows one with tear drop Forward Assist and straight slip ring instead of tapered.

Sounds like a 733 to me.

Most 733's lack the bayonet lug.  And most have extended feed ramps, and the barrel extentions can be marked "4", but they are an earlier version, "mini ramps" if you will, and are not compatable with modern 900 series M4 ramps.
