I would liek to hear expereinces from owners of ,243 AR10's. I read posts on another board to the effect that they were inaccurate, unrelaible, mechaniocal versions of the anti-Christ, etc.

Do these rifles shoot? Are the reliable? Is Armalite the way to go?

may I suggest 6.5mm Grendel; imho you'll like it much better than the .243

 I did a search on Ballistics of the 6.5... But, It's hard to find an apples to apples chart. But, It seems that the .243 maybe be a tad flatter inside the 200 to 300 yard range. I could be way wrong here. Like I said I couldn't find a chart with yards for it zeroed at 100 or 200. So, to hard to compare.  Also, the 6.5 shells run quite a bit more in price. I am planning on using it as a varment type of gun. Hopefully soon it could be T-Wolf season. I think a .243 would work out great for that. By the sounds of it we should be able to hunt them soon. And they are cheap to shoot.

how can you one say 6.5 is better than a 243win in a ar format when you can get 243 at allmost any corner hardware store or wallmart. I have never even seen a 6.5 even a large gunstores. If the SHIF a 6.5 will be a paper weight. That is the why I hunt with a rem 700 30.06. there is lots a factory loads and it is all over the place. I am sure the 243 would be a good pick for a all around rifle.

Well, looks like we just have to buy an armalite and find out.... Damn, I only owned a DR-200 in December. Now I have an SP1, Ordered RRA Entry Tactical, 2 RRA Lowers, and a .204 upper. Now I am looking to get a .243 AR-10. This is all after I bought me a new .270WSM BAR. You all are a very bad influence.... LMAO

Ya, I would think that a .243 would be very mild and alot of fun to shoot.

I'm not up to date on the Armalite stuff.  Last I had heard, I thought they were discontinuing the .243 and the other less popular AR calibers.  And trying to get a .243 magazine for it if available, iirc they were expensive.  A friend of mine has the .308 Armalite and the modified M14 mags were out of site pricewise; nice rifle though.  I'm sure the .243 AR would be a nice gun; I just think the Grendel would be a much nicer rifle now and long term.  Long range the Grendel will beat it hands down.    
Wolf is supposedly going to put commercial ammo out on the market late Spring-early Summer; brass case, quality ammo from the Serbia(?) plant (noted for quality), and the price will be much better than the current prices.  Typically, if you're a varmint hunter you reload.  But the Wolf ammo that will be coming out should make that optional too.  Go to http://www.65grendel.com/  you should be able to find some ballistics on it there.  The Grendel will be coming into it's own, this I'm sure of.  I have a 24" Overwatch, think Varminter, it's a tackdriver short or long range.  It is very nice to shoot also.  Pricewise; buy once, cry once.

eta: Glad they got the price down on the .308 mags.  After the SHOT show, it was announced that Armalite will be offering Grendels also.

They are down to less than $40 now.  No more modified M14 mags.  Armalite has their own design.

DSA sells FALs in .260 Remington (6.5-08).  I'd take that over .243 or 6.5 Grendel.  Anyone chambering an AR10 type rifle in .260 Rem?

 I still would rather have a .243. Ballistics are btter inside of 300 yards. But, If I were to think bigger game I might want one of the other. Just depends what your use is. Mine is just small game to wolves hopefully, And paper.  So, The economics of shooting should come in to play also. .243 is pretty cheap to shoot compared to the rest. Armalite still advertises that they sell a .243 even with the site update. I went over to the Industry forum and asked if the still do. Just wis I could build my own. If I was loking for a larger caliber... What about the 7mm-08?????
