How can I tell the difference between 5.56mm and .223. When Im buying from a dealer how do i know that they know the difference between the .223 round and the 5.56mm round.

Check out this link for all you ever wanted to know about .223 and 5.56x45 and more.  The first few down should answer your first question and once you know that you should be able to tell the dealer what to look for.

it will say 5.56 not 223 on the box. And IMHO if it is not in a box it is PD not  worth buying .
