Hi,

I am looking at buying a young manufacturing nm chrome M16 bolt carrier group. They are really expensive, so I want to know if its worth it? The build im planning on doing is going to be top quality, is this a top quality bolt? Is there anything I should be concerned about before I buy one?

Thanks for the insight!

very good BCG - regardless if they rufused to stake their keys. I would buy again in a heartbeat and stake it myself with my MOACKS.

Holy moley! That's definitely a turn off! They even remove the warranty if its staked!
So question. If I get one, should I get it staked?

Not if you buy it directly from YMFg.  There are other dealers who sell Young carriers staked.  FWIW, I have their carriers in all but two of my rifles, and have never had any problems with keys coming loose.

I bought a Young M16, chrome bolt carrier a few years ago and I have been very happy with it. I staked it myself with a friend's MOAK since I don't care about the warranty. It is the easiest bolt carrier to clean, everything just wipes off with little effort. Rainier Arms used to sell them already staked so you may check with them. Young carriers are good to go in my book.

Thanks for suggesting Rainiers, I think I might go through them. Its cheaper shipped through them then it is through Young. Plus there flat rate shipping will help with some other stuff I need to buy. Not sure if I should buy the MUR through them or not though...

Young BCG's are very GTG... staked or not.

Rainier Arms stakes their Young carriers, and I have no doubt that they would cover you if you have any problems with it.

I have two RRA chrome BCG's before I picked up a YM.   It isn't any nicer than the RRA's but the RRA's have gone way up in price so I figured for only $10 more I would give it a shot.   I should have bought another RRA when PK had them for $130.

I just purchase a Young Mfg. BCG from Rainier a  couple months ago and they staked it before shipping it out.  I plan to order another from Rainier for my next build too.

While both function just fine, the Young's has a number of extra operations, if I remember correctly......centerless ground oversize, chrome plated, centerless ground again (and still oversize).  I'm sure that Young's can hold as tight or tighter tolerances as any other manufacturer.  Yes, I have a couple of them.  They are super easy to clean too.

fail zero coating is better if you want the most hard lubricity.

YNM carrier is oversized and heavier...its great...I just think for my application FZ is better.

9310 bolt also.

forgot to mention, Wes from MSTN was using them exclusivly at one point when he was building his uppers.

Also as mentioned the value of a coated BCG (NiB/Crome/Et al) is primarly ease in cleaning and secondly added lubricity.

Staking is not necessary IMHO.  I have run many rifles over many years with unstaked key screws.  Never has a screw come loose.

If you want the best, get one from MSTN  They stake the carrier key and Diamond Black coat them.  Its an Ionbod finish thats slicker than eel shit and covers up the shiny chrome.

I just checked them out, they look sick!
My only two problems are, it looks as if they may not offer Young's NM chrome coated full auto bolt carrier with the diamond coating. Also any idea why they use LMT internals instead of Young's? Do the internals really matter? If so how much accuracy loss is there using LMT internals instead of Young?

Not sure if they still offer them but they did in the past cuz thats what I have.  Not sure about the internals as I supplied my own.
ETA:  Their website (www.mstn.biz)has said "under construction"  for about 3 years  I've always has good luck contacting them by e-mail.

Well, I got a hold of Paul. Its gonna take about 45 days for me to the the BCG and $305. That is damn expensive! I want one though so I suppose I will buy one when I get enough money.

Also I asked about the LMT internal stuff. He said that LMT Internals are better quality than the Young's, because Young's buy's their internals and are just not the same quality as LMT.
