15 days! Damn it kinda snuck up on me. I gotta make a trip to the gun store. So far I have everything I need for M4 type rifle except for the lower reciever parts kit (in the mail) and the lower reciever (still gotta order that).

I'm gonna be putting a hurtin' on the wallet. I might have to take out a loan or something.

Yup, the 14th I'll be putting some new weight on the 'ol credit card. Building me a nice M4 type with 6 position stock and phantom FS. I could care less about the bayonet lugs but those two things I really want. Makes me all giggly inside.

THE BAN DIES ON THE 13th, NOT THE 14th

Still a hard fight ahead!!!!!!! This is from Sunset News.......

Only two weeks left... looking good, but DO NOT assume victory yet!

Congress is currently still in the August recess, and is scheduled to return on September 7th, the day after labor day, and only 4 days before the so-called "assault weapons" ban is set to expire.

The unrelenting rhetoric coming from anti-gun lobby groups, politicians, and editorial writers is becoming increasingly shrill and inflammatory, reflecting the sheer desperation felt by these people. Though they undoubtedly know the ban has had no effect on crime (they have access to the same studies that the rest of us do), the symbolism of the ban not being renewed will be a stunning blow to their misguided cause. And, their credibility is at stake... these are the people who have been insisting that armageddon will befall our country on September 13th if the ban is not renewed. So, expect this outrageous "backed into a corner" rhetoric to worsen dramatically as we enter the ban's final week.

Though neither the House or the Senate have shown any interest in wasting any of the precious little time that remains this session on this issue, the anti-gun organizations will undoubtedly unleash an intense barrage of mistruths in that final week, with the usual goal of trying to deceive the public into supporting something they otherwise wouldn't care much about.

It is YOUR job to ensure your voice is heard too. There's no time for mailing letters. Sending an e-mail won't hurt, but the best thing you can do is to CALL both of your Senators AND your Representative on ***September 7th***, and politely state your strong opposition to renewing the ban.

Before calling your Senators, check this page to see how each voted on the Feinstein amendment to renew the ban earlier this year (the vote is in the far-right column, highlighted in yellow... green "N" was against the ban, red "Y" was for it)...

http://www.awbansunset.com/senate.html

Most politicians already know this is a loser issue that does nothing for public safety, violates the Second Amendment, and could very well cost them their job. If each gets a dozen or two phone calls from ban supporters, but receives hundreds or thousands of calls from opponents of the ban, this belief will once again be reconfirmed.

To help ensure a steady flow throughout the day, I suggest that we stagger our calls.

If your last name begins with:

A - F: call between 9:30am - 11:00am eastern time.
G - L: call between 11:00am - 12:30pm eastern time.
M - S: call between 12:30pm - 2:00pm eastern time.
T - Z: call between 2:00pm - 3:30 eastern time.

Of course, this is merely a suggestion... don't fret if you can't call at your "designated" time. Just call at whatever time you can! Remember, Tuesday, September 7th (the day after Labor Day) is when this phone call drive will take place.

You can easily obtain your elected officials' contact info here:

http://www.capwiz.com/nra/dbq/officials/

Forward this to everyone you know, and let us leave no doubt in the minds of our elected officials as to just how unpopular this gun ban is!

LOL. That's something I was talking to my brother about the other night.

There's already alot of AR's out there as well as God-knows-how-many pre-ban 20 and 30 rnd mag's. With the buying ORGY that's about to start in a couple of weeks (Hell, it's already started with the LEO pre-orders) it has me wondering if we'll double or triple those numbers (?)

Gonna be a bad time for the 'Gang" at HCI

Be very happy to see it go.... but sucks here in CT still. State law still bans all the fed law did. So, no bayonet lug/flash hider/ collapsing stock for me.

That really does suck!!!! So it won't effect you very much. I think that I would have to get away from a state like that but sometimes its not that easy, considering job, family and the likes that hold a person to a certain area.

IIRC, Troy said that in actuality since the bill was enacted on the 13th that it really died on Sunday, September 12, at 12:01 a.m. Can anyone verify this?

I feel your pain. I was born and raised in Kali. Lived there for 44 years before finally deciding to more to a free state. Couldn't buy an AR there after 94' It's so nice to be able to go into a gun store and see them for sale, and now soon to be sold with evil deadly features.

Do you mean 1999? AR15s were still legal for sale in California up until 1999 when the AW ban went into effect Jan 1st 2000 and the ones that were grandfathered to their owners had to be registered with the state.

I bought my 3AR15s during 1998 and my AR10 during 1999.

The 2 Bushmasters and my AR10 are gonna go through some big changes once parts come in on the 14th.

Not quite. It is technically in force through 11:59pm EDT on 9/12/2004. At 12:00am EDT on 9/13, it ceases to exist.

Vote with your feet, and let your state legislature know the reason(s) leaving them behind.

Hmmm, let's see if I understand this. If it dies at 12:00am EDT on 9/13, then I can start building my new baby at 10:00 pm MDT on 9/13? Correct? Considering this is my first build, I probably ought to get started earlier and do the ceremonial Joining of the Recievers at 10:00 pm. 'Course, I still can't shoot the thing until the ranges open up in the morning, but at least I can sleep with it!

...."The ceremonial joining of the recievers".........

Is that a great term or what?! lol

WOO HOO!! Even better! I don't know about you guys but I'm DEFINITELY taking timestamped pictures of all the guns I'm converting to no-ban status and then having them developed the very next day (09/13) and then I'm mailing off the photos to myself the same day (and keeping the evelope sealed in my gun safe)...this way, I have documented proof just in case another ban in enacted down the line...maybe I'll do an envelope for each gun so if I ever sell a gun the new owner will have proof that the gun was in no-ban state after the AWB expires....

A little anal, yeah, but hey, you never know....

I can retire in 2 1/2 years, but will wait til my kids are out of school.... 7 1/2 years [2012]. We then plan on relocating to warmer climates.... and my main deciding factor where........ is to a gun friendly state.

Let's keep vigilant and keep sending those cards and letters to fight the anti's. It's not over til the fat lady sings, as they say.

The 13th is a Monday and 13 is my personal lucky number (being born on the 13th and all and my life seeming to cycle in 13 year increments) I think I'll take the day off and go shooting....
