I've read most of the talk and speculation about what the PD means in regards to the bulk-packaged XM193PD and XM855PD ammo from Federal / Lake City. Why does it seem that XM855PD consistently gets better reviews than does XM193PD? It would seem to me that the two should exhibit the same type and frequency of defects since they are both grade 3 and manufactured by the same company. Is it because XM193 is more widely available and cheaper, while XM855 is more expensive and hard to find causing people settle for lower quality XM855PD? I might be opening the door for more speculation here, but maybe there is something i'm missing.

Ibought 1k of 855pd last March that had about 20 or bad rnds. with severe dents and jacked bullets and more than a few under powered rnds. that looked fine. Bought another 2k in June that are all '03 stamped and haven't had 1 bad rnd. out of at least 1k inspected and fired, real happy shooter. Ive never bought 193pd because of the negative posts here and the availability of boxed xm193.

I think that either is luck of the draw with the PD marked ammo. I have been through a 1k batch of XM855PD and it was pretty obvious this is QC reject stuff. Many dents, etc. Though just as HP40 experienced I bought a 1k box of XM855 (Not Marked PD) all stamped 03 and it was much better quality, not a bad one in the whole box. Since this is the only way to buy M855 as a civie this what we have to deal with.

When it comes to XM193 I spend the extra few bucks and buy the boxed stuff over the loose packed PD.

Where did you buy the XM855 that was not marked PD?
