7 twist shoots 55s just fine, and most people report that 50s are perfectly fine too. This thread is made at least 5 times a week, and the answer never changes.

I have heard that 1/7 may have problems with the very light, thin jacketed varmint bullets.
My 1/7 twist carbine does great with m193. |

Shot my 1/7 LMT Sunday, 200 rounds so far of 55gr Federal Eagle, some NICE groups. A friend had some 40gr reloads, and the damn things shot into one hole nearly at 50 yards.

I have a 1/7 20" govt profile. It will shoot my hot 55gr bullets great. The timid loads are a little less accurate.
Federal XM 193 will shoot into 2-3" at 100 yards. I've never shot any bullets lighter than 55gr in that particular AR. |

I just got back from the range shooting 55 grain Hornady Sp from my 14.7 inch 1/7 twist. gun was shooting right at an inch untill I got it real hot then groups opened up to about 1.5 inches. So to answer your question it looks OK at 100 yards. I never really shoot that gun past 100 so I can't comment on that.

It depends on the individual barrel. 99.9% of the time, however, a 1/7 will stabilize a 55gr round just fine.

A 1-12 twist barrel will stabilize a 55-gn bullet under most conditions, and a 1-7 twist will do so with a vengeance.

The only Time I ever had a problem is when I bought the Canadian C77 a SS109 bullet back in the mid to late 80`s I went to shoot it in my old mini 14 wich had a 1/14 twist anyway I kept the Bandolier

Bullet weight is not the true variable, it is bullet length. (length and weight are usually closely related, but different style bullets can make different length bullets of the same weight)
..just thought I would mention that. |

Yea I keep 40gr in this little guy. It shoots them around 2650. Barrel is 1/8. 
Tried them in my 1/7 12.5 and it hit the gong at 400 everytime so they seem to work fine BTW LMT uses XM193 to zero and test all there 5.56 uppers a 55gr bullet |

I think 1/7 works great on carbine lenght baarrels and lightweight bullets, but then the question mark goes for the longer 20" batrrels. I have had a few 55 grain bullets keyhole on me while breaking my BCM A4 upper, however, my carbine barrel, which is a 1/9, works perfect with both 55 grain and 62 grain bullets.
I'll stick with 62 grains on my A4 clone, I can get some IMI 62 grain ammo fairly easy.
