Hello all. The wife and I got into one hell of an argument today over my ammo purchases, every time we go to our local Wal Mart. Not only do I reload, I also mail order a large amount of ammo. It seems that I can never get enough ammo.   If some of you don't mind, would someone please explain to my wife that I am not alone, when it comes to buying and stockpiling ammo. She thinks I'm out of my mind. Thanks guys..........

Between my last 2 orders to AIM I picked up another 12K rounds of .308, 5.56, 30/06 and 7.62x39. I am stocked up and it's a good feeling.

My fiance doesn't know about how much ammo is needed yet, but she does go shooting with me, so I need to find a way to make sure she sees it as her ammo too, hmmmmm pink ammo cans?

Tell her she has too many shoes.

Let her know that you will stop buying ammo for 6mo. if she stops buying shoes.

She'll get the point and you will be set free again.

...can't live with 'em, can't live with 'em.

eta, you need a strategy:

1.  Oh that, ordered it before our big ammo argument where I slept on the couch for a week.

2.  These boxes keep me even from my range shooting.

3.  Those were on sale!

4.  Shipping was FREE.

I'd come to terms with her on an amount your "allowed" to have on hand, say 5,000 rnds, anything under this your able to buy with impunity.

To any others here who are not married yet, if your squabbling with your future wife about petty stuff like that (ammo on hand?) find a new future wife.

You're facing a losing battle, just remember it's easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission.
Buy first / explain later

I find it easier when I have my shipments delivered to my local UPSStore. If she doesn't SEE the ammo delivered, she never asks where it comes from or why I had to buy it. I just hope she doesn't look underneath the bed in the guest room.

Yor really need to encourage her to get a hobby and be very supportive of her hobby. Keep track of the things she buys for her hobby. This way you always have a trump card in your hand. I've used this method on my wife for years. If  I hear something to the effect of, "What do you need another gun for? you hardly shoot the ones you have"  I always reply "What do you need that $300 dollar sewing machine you never use for?" ... This logic has always worked for me... Try it you'll like it....

PS.  last count I had over 20,000 rounds on hand.

Wife, Please understand. Ammo to us is like women and make-up. I have 1025 rounds on hand and I received another 1000 Monday via Ammoman. The ammo is a must and should accompany the firearms we own. So please, accept mans behavior, ammo makes man happy.

Thankyou,
PocketG

Women will never understand. There is nothing you can say or do that will make her understand.

Next time shes out shopping and spending money on clothes, shoes ect jump her case about it.

Long as your not spending money you don't have on ammo/firearms I don't see the big deal. Long as the house/car/electric/water/gas ect bills are getting paid I think she should just chill out and let you do what you want. Doesn't she know men never completely grow up? We always have stupid hobbies...expensive ones too.

I have over 22,000 on hand plus components to make another 7,000.  You can NEVER have enough ammo.

My wife gave up trying to reason with me over guns and ammo.  She hasn't said any thing in a long time about the ammo buying.

She see's the ammo cans and ammo cabinet in the gun room and she must notice that there are more and more ammo cans stacking up.  I'm not up to the standards of some of the members here, but I'm working on it.  I have 5K+ 9mm, 3K+ 40S&W, 2K+ 12GA, 4K+ 308 and 6K+ 5.56/.223 plus assorted other calibers!  And the UPS man leaves me a present atleast once a week!

It only took 5 years of marriage to break her spirit!!!!

lol i have no where that much ammo i keep shooting it. but my wife knows that i go out and shoot to relax. and when i want to spend alot of money on something and she is pissed about it she just says "whatever! your going to do it anyways" trick is to not have something just show up with out telling her about it first even if i just made the order and decide i better hurry up and ask her about it. if something shows up that we did not talk about and i have no cover that could work then im in trouble but she allways forgives me, so far anyways

I spent about $1300 bucks this week on my new rifle and accessories, and mine got pretty pissed... she was like you just got a glock 3 weeks ago! I just said politely, but your mother got to visit...

Try the "investment" angle!

The ammo I bought a few short years ago has DOUBLED  and some even TRIPLED in value!

HELL, my gold didn't do that good!

Tell her it's an "investment" for your re-tirement.

You have to try this:

The dad of a friend had the same problem with his wife.  He then got his wife to shoot IPSC.  The wife was reluctant at first, but when she got to like the sport,  she bought a lot of guns and ammo.  Problem solved.

i just say that i am storing it or having it deliverd for friends that have to hide it from their wives. it is amazing how much ammo gets deliverd for "my friends". plus she loves that when i go shooting i am always shooting "my friends" ammo and this must mean i am saveing money. if this dosent work than LIE LIE LIE.

Wonder how pissed she would be if she was faceing the situation the folks in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast area are now dealing with???? My wife complains to, BUT, you can damn well bet if or when SHTF, they will be very very grateful I planned ahead and have sufficent means to help them survive. How would they feel if we wimped out and did not prepare and then when SHTF we were totally defensless and unprepared. I would rather put up with a little bitching now than watch my family be victims if or when SHTF. My wife is starting to come around though, I have been educateing her and she has been watching what is happening in New Orelaens and she is starting to wake up.  Will we ever have a SHTF scenario here in north central Minnesota? Chances are we won't, BUT, we can not say never, and we are aware of how little it takes to break down society as we witness New Orleans.
