My only red dot experience is the leupold/gilmore red dot I have on my Trailside pistol.

I'm thinking for close in carbine work [100ft or less] that a red dot with a nice wide field of view would be better than a magnified optic.  I find I can keep both eyes open when I use a red dot, but have not mastered that with magnified optics yet.

Opinions?

I've used a 1x red dot to about 150 yards in 3Gun with success.  Suggestions: EOTech, Aimpoint M2/M3.  The DocterSight shows promise as well, but few use it as a primary sight for some reason.

I second Zak.

I use an EOTech.  I find the reticle is easier to pick up; my eye is drawn to it faster than an Aimpoint.  Obviously plenty of people prefer the Aimpoint, just different strokes for different folks.
