I have tried shooting Hornaday TAP .223 and 5.56 75 gr ammo, and it stinks pretty bad after firing.  In fact, the fumes sting my eyes.  Is this typical of this ammo?

Thanks

All ammo I fire in my ARs have that ammonia odor to it, but not to the point that it bothers me. A few weeks ago I put too much CLP in my AR and upon firing it produced an obnoxious odor and smoke that did have me backing away from the weapon. I haven't shot Hornady ammo before so I don't know if it is normal.

I personally have never noticed it in 75gr TAP but I also don't notice it in Wolf either where as everybody says Wolf smells bad

I did that EXACT thing when I first got my AR. Perhaps this is flawed logic but I wanted to lube it up extra good so that everything would wear in real nicely and let me tell you, I had that odor/taste in the back of my throat for hours. Now that I just use the standard amount it does not seem too bad, but I still can smell it!

I know my manual told me to remove the excess before firing the rifle for the first time.

I don't know about TAP (Won't spend that much on ammo), but I just got some Aguilla .22LR, and boy that that stuff STINK!!  It's the nastiest stench!  I don't know what they put in them, but it sure is foul!!!

+1!!! I bought some Aguila SSS a while back and that is the only ammo that I've ever fired that literally made me nauseated. I have always heard guys here complain about the smell of Wolf ammo, but it doesn't smell bad to me at all. That Aquila is just awful.
