I am new to AR rifles, but not new to guns. I have 12 mags for my G35 that I shoot in competition: 7 ten rounders and 5 fifteen rounders. I recently ordered 10 thirty rounders for my Bushmaster, but I read about guys/gals? who never seem to get enough. Do you really shoot enough to need 30 or 40 or more mags. No flame intended...maybe I just don't get it, but what's the need for more than 10 or so?
They do wear out, and you never know when some asshole is going to make them illegal again.
10 AR's require lotsa mags. Almost 150 for me. Danny |
10 mags per rifle is required to maintain active status in the ARFCOM "inner circle" (or so DonR and Arock told me.) Some of us own... well... "more than a few" rifles.....
I have over 100 mags. Seriously, I know I have only been shooting AR's for almost 4 years.... but I have been using the same 8 - 30 rounders as my range/training mags since day one... I have to guess right at around 10,000 rounds.... and my mags still look fine. I think it would take a LOT of abuse to wear mags out by use.... I can see them getting beat up a little worse in training classes tho. Just get 10 per rifle and you are good to go.... unless you live somewhere that might ban them in the future..... and STOCK UP. It's for the children! |

if you dont understand thats ok.
the less mags you buy, the more mags that are available for me. |
Got yah up here Minuteman, we Virginians are always ready |

It's our duty to be prepared! Danny |

I'm a relative newbie to AR's, but I've got 11 30rd mags now. And I got in on Tapco's sale... I'm awaiting 7 more.
It's a sickness, I think. Besides, who knows how long you'll be able to buy, or even own them... |
I'm sure a certain senator plans on it if he gets into the oval office... |
I only have 1 Bushmaster 10 round mag and i blocked it down to one round since it is a semi auto anyway.I live in New Jersey and dont want to take any chances!!!
here here! |
cant have too many
if another ban comes along, best to have extra mags mags wear out too... they look awsome new |
I've never worn out a magazine. However, I have broken or damaged mags via accidents and acts of stupidity. Once a feed lip is dented it's very difficult to fix correctly.
that usually is the problem, I have some mags that have 0% finish on them but they still run like a champ |
I have 5 and would like five more but....I live in California. No deals for me. I get to read the ad's for NIW G.I. mag's in Shotgun News and on the EE here and vibrate with anger.
San Francisco screwballs run California. I pity Arnie. |
if you lived in CA before the ban and have 5 mags, how many mags do they know you have... unless you post it on an online forum.
You can always buy preban mags from somewhere else and bring them back, unless they now stop you at the border... anyway, AR mags aren't the sturdest thing in the world. If they were all steel, maybe 10 would be plenty. But they arent't. I say at least 20... |
The deals I've seen require one to live elsewhere, or no deal. Also most mag's now for sale have dates stamped on the bottom. Bad news for me. |
I have 50 AR mags and am willing to buy more NIW 30rd if I find good deals.

Betcha your one of those fellas that don't have any spare parts for your weapons either..... As noted above if the world keeps right on spining on greased rails, you'll probably be able to buy the mags and items ya want till kingdom come. (or atleast until Kerry or some demoncrat gets elected) However should the world come to an end as we know it, and you don't have the bare essentials, as in plenty of mags and replacement springs, plenty of ammo or a reloader and bullet makin components out the wazoo, a simple broken extractor, places your weapon out of action. Turning an expensive rifle into an awkward club. Some folks are short sighted enough to live with that possibility. Most of us around here aren't! Mike |

Hey Aardvark, what the heck are ya doing stealin somebody elses "handle"??? That's not cool man, suggest ya get yourself another handle as "aardvark" belongs to Clint, one of our resident HP shooters, and a dang good one to boot, hell if you'll step out your door, he'll drop ya form his back porch using nuthin but his iron sighted service rifle........ Mike Note to other AR15.com'rs, anybody seen aardvark/Clint or x-man post lately, IM me please. |

NOPE and he just doesnt get it |
yeah, but you're not a rifleman unless you load single rounds in your ar-15 without using a mag at the range.
Gus, everytime I see that picture, it makes me want to cry. I want to be just like you when I grow up
As to the mag issue...if you gotta ask, you aren't ready to know |
I would hope so! Not an entirely unacceptable start, though... |
+1 |
Dang.. I better get busy. I got about half as many as you have in that pic. |
ameutuer, Ive got at least twice that , |
At least five reasons:
Reason One -- Range time is for shooting. TV time is for loading. Reason Two -- 4 shooters and 5 ARs Reason Three -- The competition mags are to be kept pristine. Reason Four -- Cheaper to buy in bulk. Especially, when people will buy some with a 30% mark-up. Reason Five -- Politicians |

With various state laws, and unknown possible future bans, the mags I have now may be the last I will ever get.
Also, just like my Homeland Defense Rifles, when asked why I need them, I say, "Just like a fire extinguisher, I don't need it now, but if I ever do, it will be too damn late to run to the store and buy one." |
Gus, (sniff, sniff) That smells like... FREEDOM. |
AGAIN, zombies multiply at a exponetial rate while your loading mags and move faster when you have to reload.
Bring them back? Back from where? They live in Hotel Kalifornia, where you can check out but you can never leave. |
Thanks - lots of guys here have WAY more than I do!
So do I, now. There are also the FAL mags, AK mags, pistol mags, etc. Counting all those, I'd say I have three times as many as that pic these days. |

No such thing as too much..I just ordered 50 of the NIW ones for $12.
Also, Gus ol' buddy....leave me that frankenmag in your will, okay? |
Which one? (I have several) |
30 or 40? Those numbers are for lightweights around here son! I shoot with the same 13-15 mags all the time but I have 170+ upstairs in boxes (and buying more all the time). Like someone else said, I'm saving them for the zombies Seriously, it's a sickness and I can't seem to get it under control |
Sheesh, silly question.....ALL OF THEM! |
In that case, consider it done!!!! |
