I was over in the EE and noticed that NIW GI mags are about $10-$12 and DPMS and Bushmaster NIW mags are $18-$20.

What makes those mags so special?

It is just profiteering from having magazines in stock ready to ship.  The majority of NIW mags less than $15 are on backorder for the next few months.
