I think the real reason for it is so that the aperture doesn't stick out over the top of the sight when it's folded down and the larger aperture is flipped up. I don't know what the "horizon line" is supposed to do for you. The ARMS #40A2 doesn't have it ground down like that - it's just two regular apertures. That's the one I have.

As others, the #40. My first experience with the horizontal line came with the #38 super extended top rail. It sucked (the aperture) so I switched the aperture over to the standard A2. Then when I canned the entire #38 to co-witness the EOTech I went to the #40 and again, I needed to swap out the aperture. My dealer gave me a price on the #40 that I couldn't pass up and even with the extra $4 for the A2 aperture, I came out way ahead. A great sight with a deal that usually only happens to someone else just makes it all the sweeter.

What about a US Army issue buis? It is spring loaded with a detent down. It only has one aperature, and and it is small, but there is not a great amount of meat around the hole, so it is pretty easy to ghost it. I haven't shot with it, I have just played around with it. It does have a 200-600 meter BDC cam lever with detents. It is much lower profile than a #40. I know where I can get them for $140, or maybe $125. If anyone is interested, IM me. I might be able to get pictures.

However it may not be for down and dirty military applications in every case. KevinB has mentioned his ARMS 40 has frozen shut and he's moving back to the KAC 300m (hopefully he'll weigh in so Im not speaking for him). I recently spoke to someone else who used an ARMS 40 in the sandbox, and apparently LARGE quantities of grit can keep it from springing all the way upward, but that a light tap with the palm got it the rest of the way. That being said, these are worst case scenarios. Pat likes things simple and rugged and so do I most of the time. Not to speak for him either, but some people like mechanical things as simple as possible, and the KAC unit is indeed that. I feel more than comfortable using my ARMS40. Its tough enough to do the job, and its simply faster to deploy and more refined than the KAC unit IMHO. I'll probably change my mind next week and order another KAC just in case I get buried in wet sand and stuck outside on a 30 degree night. [):)] |

I have used both and it seems people have different reasons why they like one over the other...
GG&G lock rock solid, but manually flip up - no spring load. Uses full site apeture (SP?) Arms is spring loaded, but they seem to have some slack in them, but probably does not matter. Cut down top, apeture, seems weird to acquire and shoot. Both lock solid onto rail. I think you should get them both and then you can use either one or both if you need to! ;-) mark |

Does the ARMS #40 attach directly to the A3 upper rail or does it require some other ARMS attachment to achieve correct height alignment with the standard A2 front sight?

Some people have found out that a taller FS post is necessary(for some Bushmasters) but other's have'nt. I've had NO problems with elevation with my ARMS #40A2 lining up woth my stock FS post. |
