Just curious.

Other?

I chose 1/2 X 28 because I was told it has the most compatible accessories.

Whatever the thread pitch is for 308 AR rifles. Don't know what it is at the moment. This way you could just use what is available for the 308.

5/8 x24 for most of the .308 guns should be the 9mm choice also.... with a 1/2" barrel and a .355" hole only gives you a .073" wall thickness, minus the depth of the threads...  the 36 tpi will have a shallower thread depth

1/2-28. A pox on PSA!

It's not like I'm bitter about having to buy different pistons or anything.

You use pistons on your 9mm AR? Fixed barrel spacer?

I'd like to see them standardized as well.

It is a 9mm AR barrel right?
Right

What caliber are 90% of the ARs that are out there?
223/5.56.

What thread pitch do 223 ARs use?
1/2x28.

I want all 9mm AR barrels to be 1/2x28.

Of course.  I use pistons on my 9mm AR, my pistols, and my other pistol caliber carbines.  Seeing as how that's where the threaded portion is, it seems like it would be a tricky proposition to attach it to the firearm without using a piston.  On pistols with floating barrels, I use the booster spring with the piston; on PCCs and fixed barrel pistols, I use the fixed barrel spacer with the piston (except for that one time).

Actually that thought did occur to me, but i figured as long as i never fired it without a muzzle device or suppressor attached, that the threaded portion would be supported.

I was always fine with 1/2X36, though I had an adapter for 1/2X36 to .578X28 so I could use my 45 silencer. When cutting the new barrel down, I went with 1/2 X 28 since I have a 9mm silencer in that thread.

Otherwise I don't really care, though it'd be nice if there were a wider selection of muzzle brakes for the 9mm in the different threads.

My 5.5" has 5/8x24 threads.

There's really no reason for a 9mm barrel to be a thick enough profile to be able to use a 5/8" thread.

1/2x36 was the original spec and seems like a good option.

We sell far more 1/2x28 threaded 9mm barrels than any other thread pattern.

From what I've seen around the market it seems as though a lot of the newer 5.56 muzzle devices are being drilled to allow 9mm to pass through. What are the primary arguments against 1/2x28 other than putting a 9mm through a muzzle device that is only meant for 5.56.

Same as 9mm pistols.
