I must admit, I'm curious about this one.  I personally have 1500 rounds of lake city sitting around, plus about 300 rounds of various .223.
Clearly, this is barely a stockpile, more of a working summer source.
I'm just curious as to how big some of the ammo stockpiles are getting, and what they consist of.

About 25k rounds of various calibers.  10k or so is 5.56.

I had 30 rounds for my AR15, but I shot 3 of them the other day.

I have 27 bullets.

That should do it.

Holy Crap! You mean after collecting several AR's, hunting down and buying tons of mags for them, and decking them out with optics and trick handguards, that now I have to buy AMMO???

I don't think we should be discussing this in a public place such as this.  There are those who lurk for good reasons.....food for thought!

Because I don't like the idea of the liberal anti-gun crowd using things against us.  While I'm not sure that the government cares how much ammo most people have, it is still only my business.

How much ammo do I have?  Not enough.

Forget what you have now.  This should be everyone's goal.  And don't forget to buy a pallet jack too.

I have enought that my kids could go shooting every weekend for the rest of their lives, and never run out of ammo.

I buy ammo whenever I find a good deal, whether I need it or not.

I am sorry man but...
Have you ever filled put a yelloe paper for any of your guns? Yes?
Well they know you have those guns and they KNOW you have ammo for them.

If the SHTF do you think they are going to care wether you have 50 rounds or 5,000 rounds?

Come on...

I wondered if the pic of Dan's Ammo warehouse was going to show up here, and Hail Mary didn't fail me.

Hey!  If you have a pre-ban then don't worry about ammo.  Just "FIX BAYONETS" and charge.

It almost seems as if a ridiculous stockpile of Ammo is a talisman to ward off the anti-freedom gremlins.  While I admit that a large ammo horde is very satisfying personally, and indicative of a large measure of self reliance and independence (along with a certain amount of paranoia in many cases), I don't think there is a large advantage, socially, to 7000 rounds of 5.56 as opposed to 2000 rounds.
However, if they start banning shit again, and things get really out of hand, some of these collections of weapons and ammo will become investment grade gold, similar to pre ban stuff.

Will we sell, if that sad state ever comes about?

The advantage is all economics.  Basically volume shooters with a large stash will be less dependent upon market driven pricing.  The cry for all stashers is "When price is low, buy in bulk".  Remember the good ole days of SA 2700rd tubs for $280?

Remember the "bad old days" of pre Y2K when had problems finding a box or two of Win white box .223 ammo just to go shooting (again these are the larger 1000 round boxes ;-)

Jesus, I don't even want to think about how wild some of the stockpiles got in late 1999.  I agree with the buy when prices are low and in volume approach, but unless there is some kind of legal change, I expect .223/5.56 ammo to continue to be available in volume and at volume/competitive pricing indefinitely.

I certainly wouldn't put it past news organizations or anti groups to take out of context quotes from sites like this one. Remember, one of their favorite lines is "why would the average citizen need an assault weapon" never mind a stockpile of ammunition? Or heaven forbid you have more than one firearm, making you the keeper of an arsenal and a stockpile.

They could make major hay with the soccer moms spouting of about some guy on a web-site who calls himself gun-nutz bragging about having 25,000 rounds of hi powered military ammo. Just like the DC sniper used. My God, that's more ammo than our police dept keeps on hand and they have 23 officers. And on and on.

Don't forget that if you go a bragging about how much ammo you have, it's possible you might get a visit from some fire marshall type who has nothing better to do... :) low probability, but why advertise you have a large amount of ammo.

How much do I have? Enough for awhile, and that's all I'll say. :)

500,000 rounds!!! Um...no wait....thats 22 short....for squirrel hunting. 250 rounds! Um no wait....thats photon torpedoes.....for Klingons. I have a wrist rocket and a driveway full of gravel....does that count?!?!? Oh hell! I dunno....I lost the combination to my huge sub-basement safe.

Forget the whimpy pallet jack. More like forklift territory and a heavy duty one at that.
