I am planning an buying a 450 Bushmaster upper....any recommendations on which barrel to order.
Is there much difference between the two ......accuracy, velocity, etc.

I have the 20" bushy and I get great results with my handloads. I haven't had time to set up my Chrono or figure out how to use the damn thing but with 33 grains of Lil' Gun and using the Hornady 250 GR FTX I am pulling 3" groups at 100 yds. I know this may not be sub MOA but when you're launching the large of bullet at something, close enough is good enough. Reference a previous post about the 450 and you will see what this monster can do to a deer. When I was using factory loads from Hornady, I was getting similar accuracy using the same 250 FTX. The price to feed the thing was getting to me though so I started reloading for it.

I couldn't imagine the accuracy would be affected too much between the 2 barrels though. They only come in one twist, which is 1:24". Might want to wait and see what people with a 16" chime in with though.

I'm leaning toward the 16" barrel unless there is a real disadvantage.

I reload so hopefully I can work up some decent loads.......is the 1:24 twist too slow for the short barrel?

I got the 16" because of the easier handling - but some like the 20" because it balances better..

Here is the accuracy I go this morning from my 16" upper at 75 yrd shooting off a single sand bag - so you wont go wrong with either one

I like the 20" barrel because you can squeeze some extra velocity (about 150 FPS) than the 16" and it only weighs .4 lbs more and handles about the same, just a little longer.

This is not a tactical weapon, where shorter the barrel the better (hunting weapon IMO) so I like the better punch.

40 grs. of Lil' Gun will get you around 2500 FPS for a 230 grainer.

Any bullet-drop figures available at various ranges ?   Practical zeros ?

Stay safe

IIRC, I have my 20" sighted in 3" high at 100yds, and its on at 200yds, but drops off fast after about 225yds (maybe 2" low), but at 250yds IIRC, it was 8" low.    I figure that 225yds is about max range I would feel comfortable.

My 20" shoots great.  Has some 35yr old Hornady 250's (45 colt) that I loaded, also some 230gr fmj.   What can I say, both were under 1" @100yds

I even resized 300gr Remington .458" slugs down to .452", and they were good for 2" groups @100yds with IIRC velocity at 1750fps

I will be reloading for my 450 Bush.....but so far I have not fired by first shot.
Anyhow....most load data I have read says 3" high at 100 yds gives about 4"-6 "low at 200yds.

What bullet - powder are you using?

I prefer the feel and handling of the 16" barrel.

Both the 16 and 20 inch barrels use a 16" gas tube scheme, Bushy adds a second gas block up front on the 20" to mount a front sight.

20" if you are hunting with it to get the flatter trajectory, added velocity, and more ft/lbs on target.

Just got my 16" today! now to replace the handguard. For those who have switched to a different handguard, what did you use and what length? i am thinking DD Lite, but undecided on the length.

I got my 16" 450 upper with a rifle length varmint free float tube that I then cut down to mid length, then added a piece of rail to the top of the tube.

I just figured out that the front gas block on the 20" isn't the real gas block. The real gas block is under the tube. I am going to replace the second block with at 4 sided rail gas block. Then I can add a light and a flip up front sight.
