I have always used tools that I had around the house, saved the money and put in to another build.
I did buy a barrel block to but barrels on with my 2 cents |

i thought about the kit they offer but didnt get it.
all i got was a punch set, upper action block, moly grease, and front detent tool. i got the combo wrench from dpms. along with household tools so far that is all i have needed to build my uppers. |

What are you using to hold the upper? I figure I just need that and a barrel wrench....

Actually I just remembered my grandfather has a workbench/vice. Basically its a table that splits in half and clamps back together like a vice. But its wood. So I could use that you hold the upper while I install the barrel.

sounds like it should work.
i once used some c-clamps and clamp the action block to the picnic table we have out back and that worked. |

I bought a set of roll pin punches from Brownells. They have paid for themselves many times over.
