Yes, this is a "Help the newbie make up his mind" question.  I have spent hours reading the archives, but still...

This gun will be for home defense (I live on 6 acres in TX), SHTF, and the odd coyote or dog.  This gun will see a fair amount of range time, and I will take a two-day carbine course at the local LEO training facility pretty soon.

My dealer has two Bushys set aside, I've got to choose on Tuesday...

Choice 1:  16" HBAR A3 upper, tele stock, A2 birdcage flash-sup., bayo lug.

Choice 1: 16" M4 barrel A2 upper, tele stock, A2 birdcage flash sup, bayo lug.

I will definitely put an optic on it, prolly an Aimpoint of EOTech (depends on upper and mount I suppose).  But, I want to keep the rifle light weight.

So...

What do you sugggest?

Thanks...

Dont think about it, get the A3 upper. If you're going to mount any type of optics the A3 is just an easy choice.

My suggestion would be the M4 style, A2.  Maybe get an Aimpoint with the small carry handle adapter (think you can use the std irons with it as well) or an Acog.  Lighter weight, excellent iron sights to boot.

A3, you can mount whatever you want to an A3 and still retain the A2-Mounting capability with the detachable carry handle. More bang for your buck.

IMHO: I would go with the a3 especially when using any optics due to the fact I think its a much more solid base. If you plan on putting an eo-tech on it you wont need any extra mount, which my wife always likes to hear.  Is the a3 a dissy or does it have the short handguards?  If it is a dissapator i would like to see some pics when u get it.

Get the A3. The HB ain't that much heavier in the 16" length.
The use of an optic "outweighs" the heaviness... heh heh

+1 - I'll take the M4 barrel over the flattop.  It's cheaper to convert to a flattop than a M4 barrel.

Pick the 16" HBAR A3 upper, tele stock, A2 birdcage flash-sup., bayo lug. It will be a Easy re sale if you choose to sell it later on and plus You have a Platform to mount Optics.

The question is which Rifle do you like better? If you can't make up your mind just Buy both rifles then you will be a happy camper.

Get the A3 HBAR, then have ADCO or Kurts Kustom Firearms turn that pig of a barrel down to a proper, lighter profile.

That way you get the best of both worlds!

I would agree with the A-3............I want a 20 inch A3 myself

I'd say get the A3.  Best of both worlds.  If you decide you want a carry handle, you can always put it on.  Much harder to remove it!  Makes for mounting optics easier, especially if you get an EOTECH.

Choice 1: 16" HBAR A3 upper, tele stock, A2 birdcage flash-sup., bayo lug.

Always remember, and A3 can do anything an A2 can, but not vice versa
