Which AR15 variant had an A1 upper with a foreward assist but no shell deflector?

The M16A1 family had the FA, but no deflector.  I beleive the M16A1, the XM177E2, and the M653 would have had the FA, but no deflector.

Some Sporter 2 had forward assist without a shell deflector and some had both a shell deflector and a forward assist. Mine only has a forward assist.

All (M16)A1 uppers have forward assist and lack the case deflector which didn't arrive until the (M16)A2.

FA is a hallmark of the XM16E1 which was later standardized (with tweaks like a chrome bore) as the M16A1.

Case deflector and adjustable rear sights are the hallmark of the M16A2.

The Canadian C7/C8 have the fixed rear sights of the M16A1 with the case deflector of the M16A2.  This was never produced for US forces and is not an A1 upper.

The A1 upper with the shell deflector was made for the US.They were repair parts around 1990-91 time frame.I dont know how long this lasted because I got out in 91.Colt considers these uppers to be A2 with feild sights.Sjr556.

The Colt model 6500(20") and model 6420(16") came with the large hole foward assist no case deflector upper. Towards the end of that product line they incorporated the case defelector.

FNMI produced a limited # of M16A1 uppers with the case deflector for the USANG in the late 1980's. Distribution was limited to the west coast.
