I have two AR's, an M4gery and a 20" A3. I keep them in their cases. I probably should keep one out just incase SHTF. I always keep a spare mag ready, be it a 10 or 30 rounder. I was thinking about what you guys do with your black rifles.
Link Posted: 9/2/2005 2:13:33 PM EDT
Why would you keep a 10 rounder ready if you have 30 round mags that you could be using?
Link Posted: 9/2/2005 2:21:45 PM EDT
In the gun safe.....where else?
Link Posted: 9/2/2005 2:28:11 PM EDT
Mine is locked securely, in a case, in the safe....um, yeah officer, that is where it is all of the time. Honest.

Safe Queen.

In a safe. I'll admit I kept one out, loaded, and ready for a few months after 9/11 though.
Link Posted: 9/2/2005 2:44:32 PM EDT
I have a home office. Made a hid hole in my desk you would never find it short of taking the desk apart. I can access it in about 10 seconds. Full 30 round mag inserted and chamber empty.
Link Posted: 9/2/2005 2:51:19 PM EDT
I don't own an AR.
Just a 10/22 and a .38, honest Mr. BATF man.

Seriously though, my rifle stays locked up unless I am home.

IN MY HAND
Link Posted: 9/2/2005 2:55:16 PM EDT
Mine lives under my bed in the hard-shell case it came in until I get off my behind and build a cabinet for it and the rest of my toys.
Link Posted: 9/2/2005 3:01:06 PM EDT
In the safe.

I have a USP quickly accessible, for emergencies, but I figure if somethings going on that I'll need a rifle for, I'll have the 45 seconds it would take for me to get to it.

Mine are were stored in my boat, but the boat sank in really deep water

ARs in the safe
AKs in the safe
Pistols in the safe

Only a Glock and 12 guage 870 are held ready for as yet undefined emergencies. A 20cal RWS pellet gun for the Wolf/Tiger/Grizzly RABBITS that eat my plants. They're vicious.

Say... what a better place for a 'perp' to ask the question, and then know where to look in your typical house? Think before you answer where you keep your weapons...
Link Posted: 9/2/2005 4:22:08 PM EDT
I sleep with it.

Not. Only during the riots.

A carbine and auto shotgun is nearby.

My pistol is in my pants.

+1 IN THE SAFE. Shotguns and pistols are for home defense. I'd use them to fight my way to my safe then open the door and let loose the EVIL BLACK RIFLES.
Link Posted: 9/2/2005 4:43:23 PM EDT
Well I'm not rich enough to afford a safe so my AR is under my bed locked in a case. My other guns are locked in a closet under the stairs.

Me too…

Keep a Glock and an old 870 handy.

True..that's why the location of my two readily accessible guns wasn't mentioned. In fact, there's a Mossy around somewhere as well
Link Posted: 9/2/2005 5:10:07 PM EDT
WTF?
Link Posted: 9/2/2005 5:39:51 PM EDT
What's an AR? I don't like guns.
Link Posted: 9/2/2005 5:47:52 PM EDT
Since we're all being so open...where do you all keep your checkbooks and cash. Just wonderin'
Link Posted: 9/2/2005 6:02:57 PM EDT
The safe is plumb full with my dad's and grandpa's rifles and shotguns.

I have every single one of my rifles/shotguns/pistol in my room. They're in various cases under my bed, on the top bunk of my bed under a bunch of blankets and pillows, and I have my one go-to AR with a 30rder locked into it behind a chair that is right up against my bed (I can actually hit my head on it if I roll over in the middle of the night).

We definitely need another safe, but I don't have the money in my pocket to swing for one, and I have no room to put it either

By my bed...29 q3131a in the magazine and 1 in the chamber. 3-4 mags loaded to the top with q3131a. On the night stand. Right besides the Glock 19 loaded with hydra-shoks.

Both guns in the safe if someone is not home. (Glock usually goes with me).

I have mine perched atop the bunker of sandbags facing the bedroom door. You can never be too safe.

Mine's in the safe, with the Wasatch and 10 mags right next to it.

Sandbags...hmmmmmm, and the damn things would serve a dual purpose should the floods come. I like it, I like it a lot.

Maybe I'm just naive, but I'd worry about his intentions more if he were new, you know, with, oh, say... 15 posts...

Anyway,

Sure, I've been hanging with "The Captain" this evening, but I gotta say...

ANYBODY who would leave an AR15 under their BED while they were NOT AT HOME is just a flipping DANGER to the rest of the neighborhood. Once little Johnny gets home from school at 3:15, and he's bored, and his mommy took his XBox away because of lil' Johnny's bad grades and poor attitude, he decides to BREAK INTO YOUR FREAKING HOUSE where he finds your (probably loaded) military style semi-automatic RIFLE!

When my wife found out she was pregnant with our little girl, I spent the money I had saved up to buy a new bolt-action rifle on a SAFE from SAM's club... If you don't have a safe, buy a $12 cable lock from Lowe's and cable that sucker to the bed frame or SOMETHING. Sure it could still be stolen, BUT it would take longer, and unless little Johnny KNEW what to bring (for example, if he posted online asking where you kept your AR) then he might get scared and run off before disassembling your entire bed and hack-sawing through the headboard.

All MY rifles are kept unloaded and locked up in a quality safe (not a gun locker) and even my bedside pistol, an HK USP, is safe inside a single pistol quick-access safe that I had WELDED to the bedframe.

Of course ADT (the LAST line of defense) will make enough noise that I doubt most sorry delinquent sunsabiches will run away before they try to fire up the acetalyne torch.

My ice is melting... I must attend to it... Besides, Stargate SG-1 is on.

In the safe downstairs in my "hobby room" beside it a Gym locker "slightly loaded" with Ammo.

The only thing out until I got shoot is the Mossy 590 Mariner.

Don't worry guys, I'm no 'perp'. I was just curious, hearing a bump in the night, should I have one rifle ready on standby or should I fumble unlocking a safe or case. Thanks.

Spoken like a true perp...

ARs in the safe. Something to allow me to get to the safe is on the nightstand or in a holster on my hip.
Link Posted: 9/3/2005 6:57:39 AM EDT
I dont remember where I put them
Link Posted: 9/3/2005 7:15:41 AM EDT
I keep my ARs in a safe. I use my 1911 and a knife in my night stand for home defense. The AR is for riot/looter control and other necessary reasons.
Link Posted: 9/3/2005 7:26:33 AM EDT
Gun safe bolted to floor and wall, pistols in pistol safes bolted to the wall. German sheperds in the house will give me plenty of time to push the buttons on the simplex lock and grab my .45 out of said safe.

Just curious, I have two sets of house keys, I keep one on a keychain with 12 others keys and one all by itself. Where do you keep your spare key to your house? Just curious. Please keep in mind, i'm not a perp.

I don't own any guns.
And that's the honest truth.

Right next to my anti-tank and anti-aircraft...
Link Posted: 9/3/2005 12:43:31 PM EDT
I keep mine under a pile of stuffed animals in the baby's room... last place anyone would look. Keep a loaded .45 inside a teddy bear... "honestly, mr. homeinvader, let me give the baby a bear to quiet her down" .

J/K!!!!! (or am I)

Part of the conditions I have been issued with a UK Section 1 Firearms certificate is that..

The rifle when not in use/cleaning/repair/transit must be always kept locked in a Police approved firearms safe, securely fitted to a solid brick internal wall of my house. The ammunition must be kept in a "seperate" lockable safe which can be inside or outside of the rifle safe but securely attached to the internal wall also.

Well you did ask

Hanging in the closet inside a US Navy issue utility jacket. If you look close you can see the barrel sticking out about an inch at the bottom of the jacket. One 30 rd mag in place, loaded with 25 rds. Hidden in plain sight is always the best option, "perps" are "perps" because theyre stupid.
