Hi.  I'm looking for a place near Los Angeles where I can shoot my AR-15.

I live in Hollywood and have been spoiled for the past few years with a friend who let me shoot on his land.  Unfortunately, he just sold his place now I've got to find a new range.

Thanks,
BigEarl

umm, nowhere?  You might have to move to a free state to shoot that evil thing.

Big Earl,

If you check the California forums, a few guys will start to get together at Burro Canyon range every 2nd Sunday.

All the guys have PRK DOJ registered semi-auto guns, so no one to bother them...and next time I'll take my Roberti-Roos amnesty guns I registered over a decade ago.

We have a couple police officers among us, just bring  your legal stuff, and you're good to go.

There is the Los Angeles Range and Wes Thompsons in Piru the last time I checked. MisterSuzuki had an excellent idea of checking over at the CA forums.

Arizona or Nevada, take your pick.

A little out of your way, but this is a good one. Bring anything you want to shoot (steel plates, fruit, computers) - no glass or automotic parts. You can rapid fire and the range is well supervised.

Have fun.

I prefer the high desert, but you can shoot at Lytle and another range in the Los Al Nat Forest and I'm told you won't/can't be bothered since it's private property.

Do a net search for ranges and also a net search for gun laws in the PRK.  You'll come across the provisions for "no shooting of CA banned AW's UNLESS on private land", etc.

Me, I prefer to just go out to the middle of nowhere and not take the chance.

Easy.  Angeles Shooting Range in Lake View Terrace, about 20 minutes from you.  From Hollywood, take the 101 North to the 405 North, then take the 118 (I think) to the 210 East.  Exit Osborne and it will be about two miles off the freeway.  Professional setup.  Costs about $11 per day.  I've been going there for years.  You can shoot rifle, pistol, or shotgun.  Tell em I sent ya!

I don't live in California but I think the area near US/Mexico border would be a good place to target practice.

If he has a registered AR he is fine...

If he has a FAB-10 or single shot he is fine...

IF he's managed to make an AR .22LR only (say, by welding the front takedown pin in place on a dedicated .22LR upper like the ones from DPMS, CZ, or Bushmaster) he's fine...

Lytle Creek was my usual place, since it was 40 minutes from my house.

I remember when it was just a firearm discharge area. Shotgun shells and brass all over the place, shot up trash downrange, no safety rules whatsoever.

I used to miss that, until I remember how the wannabe bangers would come up with their SKS and go wild...

You can be a member of West End Gun club and you can shoot your black rifle there.  Or you can be a member of A Place To Shoot and again you can shoot your rifle there.
