I've seen chrome-plated charging handles in a few magazines and have searched the net but I have had no luck in finding one. Any direction is appreciated....thanks'

Most of the chrome CH you see are refinished items. Robar NP3 is a nice touch, but it isn't really neccessary.
|
|
send it out for some bling, there should be a shop close to you
|
|
Look in your local yellow pages under metal finishing or plating. A shop that can handle the chrome plating of aluminum will be able to help.
You'll have the tackiest AR in the neighborhood, though. CJ |
|
Why? the handle is aluminum. Aluminum doesn't need much maintenance. (a tennifer or chrome ejection port door or latch plate and nut would make a lot more sense. )
If you want it to be silver just bead blast it. |

Great ideas folks' I appreciate it. For those that ask "why" because I think it looks good........I'll post some pics when I get it all done with some of my other AR's. I do plan to get the other parts with the same finish, I just haven't had any luck finding a charging handle. Does anyone know of a supplier instead of modifying a part I already have, I guess that is the real question I'm asking. Thanks again...

DPMS is the general vendor with hard chrome pieces. I have a chrome selector, trigger, forward assist, gas key and extractor from them, but I don't know if they have a complete charge handle. ed; I forgot, I also have chrome hammer and trigger cross pins, and chrome dust cover pivot rod, and front and rear takedown pins. ed2; I am also using silver front and rear GRSC HK sling loops. |

IIRC you can't chrome aluminum very easily. www.trippresearch.com Tripp can do Cobra Coat which is similiar in color to chrome.
|
|
If you're serious about having a chrome CH, check with DPMS. They sell a steel CH that would be easier/cheaper to chrome and would probably last longer than a chromed aluminum one...
Just my $.02 |

Thought I'd heard & seen everything,till now.
Get some fuzzy dice to hang from her. TG |

Chroming aluminum and zinc requires an electroless nickel deposition first.
Most chromers can do that, these days. CJ |

The day you're shooting in the Georgia sun, and the glare off that handle is blinding you, you'll put in an order for a stock piece the minute you get home.
and for the rest of you guys: THIS MAN DOES NOT REPRESENT GEORGIA AR OWNERS/SHOOTERS!!! The vast majority of us are sane! |

Nothing personal about it sport. Just a little joshing |

Hey, my anniversary bushmasters look awsome to me with their nickel plating and
better yet don't have the glare that chrome would from the light. Really a classy touch and better yet, not a pimp gun!hug.gif |

At least spell CORRECTLY correctly... |
|
|
Hey Dutch1 that is exactly where my scope was pointing on this project........I was onle aware of chrome being an option for a plating surface other than the bizarre. Nickel.......where would i get those? C H R O M E or Nickel......doesn't matter to me really. Thanks again' |

I'm sure there are magazines for pimps & hos that have adds for such in the back.
|
|
Once when shooting at the Burro Creek (?) range near LA, some gansta types next to us had the most pimped out SKS I've ever seen. And a pimped out Mini-14, as well. Based upon their shooting, I'd have to say chrome parts do little to improve accuracy. |

Ditto what Stasher1 said. Give DPMS a call. They can probably have their steel charging handle hard chromed and you could look at their other HC'ed parts. They also have TiN coated parts if you're into da gold bling look... |
|
|
I always like my AR's to have at least one part that's really shiney, and when light hits them, they show anyone around me EXACTLY where I am. I want me and my rifle to always be a dead give away, under any conditions. I like the chrome idea, makes perfect sense. |

Always makes me laugh when someone corrects a spelling error of someone else, then proceeds to fuck up the spelling of a simple word in THEIR post. Back to the subject. Chrome charging handle = |

Finally. Someone is bringing the term "bling bling" back to ARFCOM.
Bling Bling, baby! |

Not everybody is building combat weapons.
Not every one of MY AR's are combat weapons. |

I was sitting there and I saw this thread is still around... I couldnt believe that a thread about a chrome charging handle could be 2 pages! Its been fun but this one is just taking up space.
