I've seen this alot lately but what is a SCAR?

Special Forces Combat Assault Rifle

Its specs are designed to meet spec-ops needs for a primary weapon that is caliber configurable, accessorizable (aimers, NV, sights, scopes, lights, etc. can be attached to it), durable in harsh environments w/ minimal maintenance requirment in the field, to mention a few requirements. I believe it is designed to be an upper, compatible w/ the the existing AR lower, but am not 100% sure about this. The latest word had either Colt or LMT fielding an impressive prototype, but no hard facts have come out yet. My hope (grasping at thin air) is that it will made available to all of us, legal hurdles notwithstanding.

SCAR program office is not likely to make any public announcements soon, the evaluation is continuing at this time. As to whether the individual manufacturers are going to release any info or photos, that's up to them. Colt's three entries are still in the running.
