wow the rear sight for the third rifle looks like it s set for an intergalatic target and i like the level posted on the front sight that way you can make sure the bayonet goes in straight

This is a good question, At what point does it not qualify as an evil Assault rifle, thats a better one. Maybe if they were all neon blue and chrome from the manufacturers they would look harmless enough that the Gun-Haters will leave us alone. Then after we own them we can turn them into evil black rifles that we all love.

ArmaLite sold the AR-15 trademark to Colt.  I guess you could make a good case that AR-15 is now "public domain" like "aspirin" is.  I use it to describe all rifles of the class.

When it's not an AR becomes a real philosophicl question.  I'd say when the bolt, carrier, barrel extension, and gas system are dropped.

I like the rifles in the pictures. All of them look like AR's to me.

An AR15 will technically always be an AR15. 'Assault weapons' are semi auto rifles designated by feature count and once you remove enough named features it is just a semi auto rifle.

I use an older JP Enterprises upper assembly on my custom lower for shooting ground squirrels....


Talk about a serious piece of gear for dispatching squirrels at long range, with a pretty average handload the rifle averages around 3/4 inch for 10 shots at 100 yards.    It's also reliable even considering the tight tolerances, have put as much as 400+ rounds through the thing in one day without so much as a hickup or a cleaning.

A lot of people use rifles with the 16-18inch barrel options for use in 3gun or action rifle and the guns run great.   JP Enterprises was out there doing it long before Wilson Combat or LesBaer got involved with slapping the things together and charging an arm and a leg based upon their name recognition.    Back 6 years ago for a custom AR15 that was unique, pretty much the only recognizable companies out there were JP Enterprises and DPMS with lesser known folks like John Hollinger or Compass Lake.
