Special being something other than the square front sight post

either fiber optic or tritium or a combination of both

Since my rifle is iron sights only and will stay that way for the foreseeable future I was pondering switching out the post for something easier to see

As far as I shoot with this rifle a big fiber optic dot wont hinder me much and it would seem to me that it would aid acquisition up close.

What are your opinions

Thanks
Rob

I'm adding a tritium front sight only. I figure the 2 dots on the rear will be a bit odd when the sight is right up near your eye. Several makers have the front sight post with a tritium insert. I really don't see too many folks with them, there might be a reason why...I don't know. But I really can't see any harm to the front sight having a low light capability.

Really no harm in having the tritium front sight...I think a lot of people (myself included) don't see a justification for the cost when a lot of people are running illuminated optics and have some sort of flashlight mounted to the front of the rifle.

for what you'll pay for a tritium front sight you could get a primary arms red dot.  most people shy away from the tritium sights because supposedly it can screw up your night vision, but that could just be BS, i'm just relaying what goes around here when folks ask about em.

personally i'd rather have a good flashlight mounted on the front sight or front of the handguards instead of a night sight, although one of the fiber sights might be of benefit during the day and at night if used in conjunction with a flashlight.

I've tried both tritium and fiber optic.

As someone has already noted, the dots on the rear sight are pretty much useless with the tritium sights. I didn't find the front sight dot that useful.

The fiber optic sights don't really gather enough light to be useful, so I found the one I was using to be more of a hassle than a benefit. One of my coworkers experimented with splicing a gaggle of additional fiber optic on his without much success.

I'd skip both and look at getting a light.

Look at Ameriglo HACK sights.

I just put a set on my Glock 35 and I really like them.

Bright orange ring around front for great daytime sight picture and green dot front with yellow dots in the rear.

Very fast setup..... my new favorites and I've owned sights from a dozen companies over the years.

I like the XS 'skunk stripe' front sight; it's easier to pick up in daylight against a broken background, and it isn't big enough to hinder a fairly fine sight pictur
It's also strong and simple, tho' I don't care for the XS rear sight.
Agree that a weapons light is a better option at night.
