My rock river Ar-15 has the weirdest finish to it.  Its almost gritty.  I dont think I like it.  The rifle itself is amazing, but it just feels wierd where I'm used to it being smooth.

Are you talking metallic surface or coating? My RRA is fine with me, but I look at them as tools anyway.
Nice to hear from a fellow trooper too.

Can you post some pictures?  All my RRA's are smooth.

You just haven't affectionately stroked it enough! But, be careful, you don't want it to grow into a rifle!

The coating process leaves it very dry and rough feeling.  A few coats of oil should give it the look and feel you were expecting.

Give it some time, the finish will eventually become smooth . Your just used to Uncle Sammy's weapons that have seen a lot of use. I have two RRA lower receivers. My first is about 4 years old and has seen quite a bit of range time, from use the receiver is smooth. My newer RRA lower is still a bit rough….for now.

+1

I thought the same thing when I got my RRA lower. I rubbed it down with tetra gun lube before I assembled it. Now it looks nice and smooth.

My last 3 RRA lowers all wound up with Norrell's coatings for some odd reason.  I can't even remember what the original black finish looked or felt like.  Maybe I just like to be colorful.  MJD

Ok, thanks for the support.  Like I said, the rifle shoots great... The parts just feel weird.  I'm used to the outside being smooth and certain internal areas being smooth.
