1,000 rds. of 55-gr. .223 FMJBT Ammo
Weighs 27.5 lbs.

1,000 rds. of 62-gr. .223 FMJ Ammo
Weighs 28.5 lbs

I've noticed one is "boat tail". What exactly is this? Also the difference in the grains. What is the pros/cons of the 62 vs. 55? My bushy has the 16" barrel so I wanted to find out which round would be the better for range plinking.

Thanks,
Andy

Boattail has a tapered tail, like a boat.
55 gr is best for plinking, depending on cost.

The 62 grain would hold velocity better at longer ranges (+200yds) and penetrate better.  As it is longer and more unbalanced it should yaw faster as well, leading to quicker fragmentation.
If the price is the same, buy both.  Your rifle should "like" one better, use it.

Ok. Basically need to stick to a 55 grain FMJ. I read about the boat tail stuff and it didn't sound that good to use.

The aerodynamics of boat tail are better, making in better for long ranges.
