They are not the same. Shock isolating the lamp module is just one thing a dedicated weaponlight does.

The next question, is if a 9P with a Z32 will work just fine? The answer is yes, but it doesn't offer all the same capabilities that a dedicated weaponlight will give you.

The major difference is primarily a feature referred to as Battery Retention or Battery Isolation.  A true weapons grade light system will have a shock isolated bezel or lamp assembly AND will isolate the batteries from hammering the lamp under recoil.  While there mayb be many bone stock G2's, 6P's, etc. being used on rifles these features are aimed at doing everything possible to safeguard the lamp against failure.  On certain standard lights you can add a shock isolated bezel as a safeguard but battery retention isn't an upgrade accessory, either you have it or you don't.  I know true weaponsgrade light systems are expensive but unfortunately it's something you'll have to decide if it's worth the cost.

In regards to the two weapons you mentioned needing to outfit, due to thecexcessive recoil abuseofa shotgun a true weaponslight would be the safest solution.  My advice would be the SF 623FA forearm system, or for a less expensive setup, using a mag' tube light mount with either the SF Classic weaponslights or the Pentagon X2, X3, L2 or L3.

For the AR you have a many options ranging from full blown weaponsgrade lights to more budget (but quality) oriented setups.
