A2 has a storage compartment, is stronger, and longer.

M16 - fiberglass buttstock, fixed buttplate, pinned-on sling swivel that actually swiveled.
M16A1 - fiberglass buttstock, trap-door buttplate with interior storage, stronger fixed sling loop. M16A2 - 5/8" longer than M16/A1 stocks (which were ideally sized, BTW), plastic, foam-filled, fixed sling loop. All use the same receiver extension (buffer tube). For use with the longer A2 stock, a 5/8" spacer is added to the end of the tube and a longer stock screw is used. -Troy |
