I have three options for my NIB Colt MT6400C.

1) Have barrel cut to 14.5", Add Phantom 5C2, re-contour barrel to M4, Re-park, barrel, & swap out front sight base for no-ban version. 300+freight both ways est. $350.00

2) Purchase LE6920 M4 barrel only w/ A2 hider to replace original $395.00

3) Purchase LE6920 HB (heavy barrel) M4 barrel only w/A2 hider to replace original $450.00

I already purchased a Colt collapsable stock for it so all I need to do is deal with the barrel situation. I do however want to keep this rifle all Colt for personal reasons unless someone can convice me otherwise. Down the road I plan on purchasing a LE6920 for the safe and have a 20" HBAR as well FWIW. Any help would be great!

Don't do number 1. I think it is a crime for a barrel to be under 16". You loose so much velocity.

Could sell your NIB 6400 + $450 you would spend on HB and have close to a NIB LE6920. Just a thought.

Any other opinions?

I would do #1 or #2

With my own 6400C I opted for option #2. Originally I was going to simply have the barrel threaded for an A2 hider, but then I decided to keep the comped barrel intact for my daughter's first AR. As ugly the comp may be, it does a hell of a good job negating felt recoil and reducing muzzle drift.

Besides, that barrel (as well as my fixed telestocks) are a poignant reminder of ten dark years in our nations history.

Now I just need to find the time to rebarrel the upper

Did you purchase the LE6920 barrel and if so where did you get it and do you think the HB version is worth the money?

#4: Purchase a 6920/21 upper and sell your 6400c upper to lower the costs.

I bought a 6920 just to swap uppers so I could have a cool m-4 type rifle. Now both my upper and lower have m-4 markings.

I purchased the 6920 barrel from SAW

My 6400C is my SHTF carbine so I opted not to go with the HB barrel to save weight. Between the optic, Surefire forend etc it's already heavy enough-no need to make it worse. Here it is in it's present form:

I own two 6920HB barrels, as well as an AR6721(HB) tactical upper. They are presently earmarked for other projects. Here is the 6721:

Opting for the standard vs HB barrel is purely personal preference based on your usage parameters. Either way you'll get a heck of a nice setup
