The front Take down pin in my new lower is pretty loose.. I haven't installed the rear one yet but I assume it will probably be the same (Waiting for the buffer tube to come in the mail).

It's a Sundevil Lower and RRA LPK I got from Ranier Arms. I assume if it is too loose and I'm not being paranoid that it could cause some problems during shooting. What should I do?

Thanks,
Nathan

Can you explain "loose" a bit more?

Well... Easy to push out (The Detent doesn't place enough force on it). Now, when the Pivot pin is pulled out, it seems kinda normal when pushing it back in.

I am comparing it to my Bushmaster lower. I can't go by the Colt I used to have since it was a large hole upper needing two screw drivers.

I have tried the RRA Pivot pin and Detent, and a spare parts kit Detent and Pivot pin (not sure what brand). It was alittle tighter with the Pivot pin from the Spare parts kit, but it is still too loose.

If I had to guess, I'd say the spring/detent hole in your lower was drilled too deep.

Typically, the problem is they are too damned tight, and I have to clip a coil or four off the spring.

If it has the problem with different pins - then I would also suspect the lower being drilled too deep, or the springs too short.

I'll check the spring in a minute.

My Sun Devil lower has a loose front take down pin as well. And I mean loose be it wobbles back and forth and is in no way snug at all.

Same. Even rotates.

FALARAK,

Here's a picture. You can see the spring sits way too far in.

That's it. On a normal build - that spring would stick out about 1/16". You just need to stretch that spring by hand, and reinstall, and report back.

Roger... I will give it a try.

That did it! Nice and very tight now. Thanks!

Nathan

ETA: I think it's tighter or about the Same as my Bushmaster.

I stretched it alittle when I was trying to fix it myself a week ago, but it wasn't enough, as you could tell by the pic.
