A 203 grenade launcher. You never know when you might need it.   I guess the same goes for a bayonet lug - To me it's a cool factor thing -  Like having a car with 400 hp under the hood - Doubt that I'd ever opener up, but I can say I got them

Gentlemen, gentlemen, please.  Can we give the man a straight answer?  Can we just stop beating around the bush here and come to terms with the fact that the purpose of that step-down is the forward mounting of an M203 grenade launcher?

I am going to take a guess here, but I think the tapered section of the barrel is for a M203 grenade launcher....  please correct me if I am mistaken.

Most believe that this was initially for an M203 grenade launcher. Alot of testing was done within the military. They thought that the barrel should be "stepped down" in this manner for some reason then realized it would be great for somthing else. They thought about it for awhile and for some reason they were inspired by the design and in fact decided to use it to fit the M203 grenade launcher.

+1 to our post counts

If you want the real answer, you'll have to ask Mr. Owl. You know the one who tells you how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop. The world may never know.

Why would anyone want to mount a Clock on an AR?

Oh - sorry "Glock" - that makes more sense.

It's there so when somebody takes your AR away from you and shoves it up your ass, your sphincter will catch in the groove and stop any forward progress.

So let me get this straight, it is for adding a Glock, bending it to shoot around corners, Breaking it over you knee when I go with a SBR.............Oh ya, I almost forgot, and  it is also used to mount a M203 grenade launcher. WOW, I never new that, you guys know everything.....

I'm gonna take a wild stab at this and say it is for mounting an M203, I'm not 100% sure though.

It's just a comparison point for what an appropriate barrel contour looks like, something to remind you how much extra metal you're lugging around!

Just go Superlight, baby!  LOL....
