Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - What is Good/bad for AR finishes?

Wondering what cleaner is compatible with the AR finishes.  Will Hoppes harm the finish if left on too long?  I know about simple green simply from warnings about using it on aircraft, but how about other stuff.  Thanks

Hoppes will not harm the finish of your rifle. I often use Hoppes on a rag to wipe down my rifle. For exterior cleaning I use a stiff bristle cleaning brush and CLP.

Anything that is bad for Al will be bad for an Ar. Just about every Commerically avaible gun solvent is safe to get on the finish.
