I don't know, I'd build it up as a Colt Commando clone just because thats what is on the Lower.

Yes that is the correct A1 lower forging.  Am doing the same thing with an old PWA lower.  Victor is reanodizing it now in Colt's gray to match my M16A1 parts kit:

Hmmm.  Your lower looks just like the Olympic I have.  No weep hole for the front take down spring.  It is also LMT manufactured.  I wonder how many of these LMT produced?

Victor can match the Colt color huh?  How do I contact Victor?

Denny

There are a few thousand PWA, and Coal Valley Eagle Arms A1 lowers done by LMT.  There are also many thousands of Sendras done up on A1 lowers.

Anodizing involves stripping the old finish, and Victor is the only guy I trust my lowers with.  Once I get it back will post pictures.  The PWA lower I had was kinda funky, so don't know how well it will turn out.  Victor has a new web site, can't find it right now, but here is the old one:

Nice lowers.

Now I need to look for a similar lower for my possible A1 project for this year.

Good info in this thread, thanks guys.

Yeah I agree, but send it to me as I need a useless paperweight, or maybe just to put on my 607D project.  Either case that is the worst example of an A1 lower that I have ever seen.

Astonishing to me that nobody has come to market with a true A1 lower yet, despite the Colt-653 attempt.

There is def. a market for these.  Nice PWA lowers, folks!

I think we may need a "Retro" forum with FAQs for pre-A2 stuff. What do you all think?

I'll start a new thread in the GD.

I was waiting (like a few hundred others) for the Colt 653 project, and was looking forward to it even though there were lots of "issues" throughout the wait. It doesn't look like the new offers are gonna work out.  Man, I wish someone would come out with what a few hundred (at least!) of us are wanting.  Good post Denny; thanks for the info; I didn't know some Olympics and PWAs were LMT built.

What are the actual visible physical differences on the outside of an A1 lower verses the current lowers avalable today?

And let me guess...You're either going to put an RDIAS in it or convert it into an M16, right?

Ekie

Any update on the refinish?

I have benn reluctant to send my A1's off for as finish because of my experences with prior refinishing jobs. They were dimmensionally out of spec.

My PWA seems to have the original deep black finish but it seems slick like a teflon based finish (I have had this over 10 years)But I have no prior history before I got it.
My Eagle A1 has benn spray painted.

I biggest concern is that these lowers become out of spec paperweights!

Your thoughts?

Should get them back Monday.  And yes, I have had the same experiance with sending stuff off to be anodized.  They blast the heck out of the parts then everything fits sloppy.  So far so good with sending stuff off to Victor.  He strips the old finish off chemically.  I sent him six receivers this time.

Somebody just oughta say "I am making 100 A1 pattern lowers. No slabs or XM pattern. They will have this finish and this design. Take or leave." Then do the same for slab, and XM...;)

Wish I had one of those A1 lowers

My CDNN M16A1 upper needs a lower soon, been waiting on Colt-653 to come thru and at this point it's not looking good.

Yeah, I got em yesterday, they came out real nice.  Now the lower is gray, and pretty, so don't look like a PWA anymore, HA!

Anyhow, I have a bunch of 1099's and 1098's I got to get filled out and in the mail.  Just the same am going to try and get pictures up this weekend.
