I have my LMT SBR that NEEDS an optics. I have of course the BUIS but it looks naked without an optic on it.

I've explore leaving it as is....with no optic. I was raised on using my iron sights and prefer them to any optic made for reliability.

I've owned an AIMPOINT and EOTECH. I did not like the AIMPOINT at all, I however enjoyed the EOTECH but did not care for the holographic image.

Recently I was looking through Kalinkoptics.com and noticed the Russian made KOBRA red dot.

I know for a fact that these sights are battle proven, the battery life may leave a little to be desired but it uses the cheap CR1/3 batteries.

The greatest benefit of the sight besides being waterproof/shockproof and battle proven I think is the ability to choose between different reticle images.

Would anyone have a prob. putting this device on their rifle???

Thanks for your help

A cobra would look very bad on an AR.

It is designed to mount on an AK, and designed to go on the AK.
Why not use an optic designed for use on the AR?

If you read the original quote I cannot find an optic under $200 that is battle-tested/waterproof/shockproof and has multiple reticles.

That is why.

Stick to irons until you can afford a better optic.
When it comes down to it though, it is your rifle.
Do what you want.
YMMV, and all that good stuff.

My advice... find a previously owned, but like new Aimpoint M2 or Eotech over in the EE.

I bet you can find one for a great price & I'm positive that they are better sights than the Kobra.

He already owned an Aimpoint and an eotech, from what he posted.

I have a Kobra for my AK. heavy sucker, ruins the handling on an otherwise incredibly light and short carbine. four reticles, the dot is small (like 1.8 MOA or something), but the dot with chevron is more eye catching. You ahve to dismount the site to change batteries, this kinda bugged me. You can obscure the dot by putting your finger between the projector and the lens. if you get mud in there: no reticle. It's kinda of difficult to adjust, also. Theres some weird dial you ahve to unscrew and adjust, then re-clamp the dial down... it's hard to explain and slightly less difficult to do.

Mine crapped out on my after a thousand or so rounds, something inside fried. I had to disassemble the whole sight, pry open the sealed plate, and re-solder some connections to a solid state panel on the inside. (good thing I do electrical work part-time)

Battle proven and rugged? I never abused it. I got mine back when they were lesser known and around $145. I don't feel AS gypped. I still use it form time to time.

Looks ok, to me.

But is it there for looks, or function?

The Aimpoint and Eotech optics are technologically superior; if they don't work for you though, why not try the Kobra?

You should check out the Trijicon Tri-Power. It has an inverted chervron rangefinding reticle and active/passive illumination. About the same size as the Aimpoint but it might be a bit heavier.

I was running over the same thing with my latest build.  I now own 4 ARs, one has an Aimpoint, 1 has a EOTech 512, and 1 has a ...well ok type scope.  I was going to upgrade the scope when I started the newest build.

I didnt even know Kobras came with a rail mount till I started looking at them recently.

I have been working with a EKP-8-18 Generation 2 Kobra for several days now.  Its mounted on a A2 type Carbine with a ARMS#39.  The guy who owns it (the weapon) has put over 4000 rounds through it without any trouble.  I have put over 800 in the past few days...(I just tapped out a couple more tonight...

The Kobra is awesome for the price.  I see no reason other then purest bullcrud reasons not to put a Kobra on a AR, if you are trying to keep the price down.

Heck, I dropped a Ford 5.0 into a 76 Chevy Nova and nearly had to leave town people were so pissed at me...

Fact is the Kobras are tough battle proven sites.  All optics have their bad points, but most people who knock the Kobras are talking about the cheap-0-kobra rebuilds, NOT the latest NIB ones from Tantal.

The Russians are now upgrading their SF units to the new PKAS sites just as our SF units are dumping the Aimpoints for the EOTechs.  This is great for guys wanting the Kobras since they will come down in price again...

And if you want a BETTER red dot then an Aimpoint...get a PKAS...LOL.  I was checking one out on a AK...blew my Aimpoint away.  Mounting it on an AR maybe tricky though.

I borrow a digital camera from someone and post a pic after I get mine...Just to piss-off the AR purest out there...
