I love the A1 rifle: compact and light.  I wish that I could get a 20", 1:7, chrome lined, A1 barrel, but I don't think that the military ever made these.

You could also have an A2 barrel turned down to A1 profile.

This I did not know.  Now to find the hiding places.  I guess a NIW is out of the question.

In the past thirty years I've neer seen a factory A1 profle chrome lined barrel with a 1/7 twist. Find a local machine shop and have them turn down an A2 goverment profile barrel for you. I'v3e got a local family shop that did a couple for me for $35 each. You'll have to remove the front sight base so they can turn down the area between the two sight legs that mount to the barrel. finding someon to re park it is the hard part. Most shops want to do the whole barrel, if they will even do a single piece. My favorite is one I had turned to A1 profile and cut to 18".

There are both Colt and FN barrels in this profile and twist.

Israel ordered a bunch of them several years age and some made it to the US market.  You should be able to find a new in wrap, but it won't be cheap.

I figure $200 would be the top that I am willing to pay.

I think I paid more than that...

My wallet says, "How cheap can I buy a 1:7 chrome govt profile barrel?"

I would plan on spending $450 to $600.

$200 might buy you a Colt government profile barrel on a lucky day.

Here is one. It is a 20" A1 profile 1/7 twist made for the IDF. Since this pic was taken I acquired a Colt  A-1 upper.
