Will a Weaver scope/sight mount fit on a Picatinny rail? What exactly are the differences between the two rails?

yes,

the diff is slight. not a big deal at all.
the Picatinny rail is an exact "spec".
Weaver is not an exact spec but with the weaver ring system close is good enough.

Weaver will fit Picatinny.
some Picatinny will not fit Weaver.

Generally Weaver style rings will work on a Picatinny rail but not vice-versa.

I found spec.'s for picatinny rail, but nothing on weaver. Figured I better ask before I throw money away...

Since the weaver isn't tightly spec'd, do folks tend to have problems keeping zero when a weaver sight base is used versus picatinny on picatinny?

Reason I'm askin, I'm considering mounting a PNW or other peep sight, and I can only find weaver mounts... Thank you folks for putting up with the noob.

It's all relative to the sight system.

If you have a quality rail and rings, you should have no problem re-attaining zero.

Picatinney or not, once zero'ed, the base and rings should'nt mutate on ya.
